Alright I want to wipe my entire computer.. but I have an iTunes library with over 1500 songs. Is there anyway I can save a certain amount of files and not have them deleted off my computer, or is there no way I can wipe my computer without deleting my iTunes library?

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, DVD or get an external HD for your files.

Uh, yes.

Burn them all on a DVD if you don't want to get an external HDD, DVD R/W drives are only £20 nowadays.

or you can wipe the windows partition only while saving anything on other partitions. depending on the reason you are formatting.

If he doesn't understand the concept of putting mp3's onto a dvd... then he's going to have trouble partitioning his drive.

Do you have a cd burner? You can back up files onto cds, format the drive and then put them back on.

1500 songs is a lot for CDs though.

4gb DVD.
4,000mb (approx)
Avg size: 5mb.
4,000/5 = 800 songs
1500/800 < 3DVD's

EDIT: I see you used "CD's" and not "DVD's"... in that case it would be;

750/5 = 150
1500/150 = 10 cd

Borrow an Ipod from a friend.

Transfer your important files, and boom.

I was thinking of music CDs with the 80 minute max where normally you can store 20 or so songs in them. That'd be around 75 give or take. I guess if you made a data CD, you could store more.

Yeah I was thinking mp3 or data cd because the time limit doesn't affect those. Also, if you made it a data you wouldn't have to rip every CD, and could just drag and drop.

Ah yeah, I figured.

Ok I'm thinking of maybe getting an external DVD writer, because it'll be good later on too. But I might just get the data CDs. We'll see on my next paycheck I suppose, unless another great idea comes along.

Thank you all for the help.

Edit: I just read something about transferring data from your ipod to the PC. Anyone know anything about how to do this?

External hard-drive would probably be easiest, but whatever you find easier, or if you understand about software and partitioning and all that stuff, try that but only if you know what you're doing.

Rats!

if you get an external drive make sure you have USB2 ports, otherwise you'll be limited to 4x or so.
