My computer is sick :(

Okay. Well, I'm in the process of saving up for a new sound AND video card, but other than that my computer is 100% healthy.

Today it just started making really weird sounds. It makes a ticking sound, almost like a bomb.. it comes from inside. So I opened up the tower and cleaned out the dust (I dont know if that had anything to do with it), and it still does it. I don't think the fact that my video/sound cards are kind of old matter either.. so wtf?

Anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking that.

After cleaning my heatsink, I turn the computer back on and there is a loud noise. Turns out the fan was hitting a wire.

Or maybe your hard drive is going bad and you need a new one fast.

Sounds like it could be a hard drive problem. I would back up all my important data and files if I were you, to avoid potential loss in case of failure. If you google "hard drive ticking sound" a bunch of hits come up. Apparently many tick before they go bad or it signals they have already gone bad. Google your self and see.

But of course check all else, too. Fans, optical drives, etc....First things first...

Might be a fan that's clogged up with ****, I've seen plenty that get like that after a few years.

EDIT:- Actually there really is a bomb in your computer, I put it there last night as part of my hippy killing campaign.

Yeah, my brothers maked a clicking sort of niose, i opened it up to discover his graphics card fan had snaped in half.

Could be something like that.
