So I did a Jazz Combo this quarter and our concert was just now. Here's me playing vibraphone, I think it turned out pretty well.

cool video man.

nice playing.

Guitarist looks like an amatuer dweeb wearing shorts to a recital though. Looks like he came straight from the frat house to the gig.

heh, originally he wasn't even wearing that shirt, it was some random t-shirt. He didn't have a chance to go home before the gig and change, and he felt pretty stupid when he saw the rest of us.

He violated a cardinal rule of band attire etiquite:

No other musicians are allowed to dress down more than the drummer.

Passion Dance is a good tune. Guitarist cant solo? (jokingly) get him outta there!
It was pretty good. If you'd like some advice about something you could work on... you could focus more on using the melody as a basis for the improvisation. Especially with a tune like that, a solo that starts with variations close to the melody makes everything more cohesive. This is just my opinion.

No, he can solo fine. We just decided that not all of us would solo on every tune, and that was the one he sat out on.

Like the first 4 bars of McCoy's solo on the original recording.

I've never heard it before. I learned the tune out of a real book.
Do you recommend that CD?

A big 123 to that:chug:

What a lineup: McCoy, Joe Henderson, Elvin Jones, and Ron Carter. You just CAN'T go wrong there.

It's McCoy's best album, but probably only in the top 20 for me.

The others have obviously given you strong enough reccomendations to tell you that it's a great album, but I'll also throw my support behind it, just for the hell of it (although, I am a far bigger fan of his work with Trane). Don't know if it'd be in my top 20, though.
