Creating Tabs: Format

I am just about to make my very first tab, but I can't seem to get the correct format together. I am using Microsoft Word, Arial, and 12 pt font. I am also using a mac.

Could someone advise me on want programs/fonts/formats I should use?

I use tabber, its easy to handle and its the only useful programm i know.

you have to use courier new font, and using notepad/wordpad is easier.

courier new:
