I have been totally obessed with this band lately. they are one of my personal favourites and its such a shame they were overlooked for the most part.

I could never get into them. They're alright though.

Pink Floyd? I never really heard that in HUM. . . but I do love them.

You'd Prefer an Astonaut and Downward is Heavanward are two insanely good albums, very SPACE rock-y. 'Stars' has TWO of the greatest guitar riffs ever in it, which is pretty amazing IMO. They always reminded of the Smashing Pumpkins, but smarter.

The spacy-ness is what I especially like about this band. I've only listened to Downward is Heavenward and I was obsessed with it for a while. "If You are to Bloom" and "Apollo" wowed me a lot the first time around.

I like Downward Is Heavenward a lot. It's not anything i'd give regular play to, mainly because it's not a hooky album (nor does it need to be). But it's very good.

Zappa got me interested in the album Downward Is Heavenward, and I think I also downloaded it from him. I've listened to it a good deal and it's honestly the best modern-rock album I've ever heard. Probably because I have a special hatred for anything from the post-grunge era as Creed and Nickelback have defined it.

But HUM is truly something special. Despite still fitting into that genre of "mainstream" rock, they maintain their uniqueness with powerhouse riffs that also emit a "spacey" quality. In addition, they have lyrics that are actually specific instead of the non-committal, mass-marketing "could mean something to anyone" verses of bands today. Maybe the songwriter was a bit of a science geek, but he still knows what emotions are!

So yeah I really like this band. My favorite song of theirs is "Apollo" of course, but "Afternoon With the Axolotls" has recently grabbed my attention. Like Apollo, it's amazingly subdued and crushingly slow, but still maintains its beauty.
