Well, am guessing most of you have heard about The Raconteurs. But if you haven't, it's the new band from White Stripes frontman Jack White and his good friend Brendan Benson. The band have just released their debut album 'Broken Boy Soldiers' as well as a single 'Steady As She Goes'. White recently said in an interview that The Raconteurs were more then a 'side project' and that they were definitely a 'long term' thing. But where do you stand on The Raconteurs? has White raised the bar? are they the best new band out there? or are The Raconteurs just another disposable side project? (see Box Car Racer, The Network, Transplants)

Ahh, I think in their own right they have established themselves as a pretty good band. What i've heard, i've somewhat liked and they probably will do pretty well for now. Don't forget, although it is Jack White, they have got some other good musicians themselves in the band. As long as they don't get too many people that dislike them due to Jack White himself, they probably will stick around in my opinion.

I've heard a couple of their songs, and liked them much more than anything on the last Stripes album. Still not sure if I'd buy their album, but they seem decent.
Really though, he can do whatever he wants, regardless of whether the Raconteurs/Saboteurs are "unwanted".
One of the best new bands of 06 for me, their album is really high quality. Great effort.

well i've only heard Steady As She Goes from them so far, seems to be doing the rounds on the radio here. It gets into your head! Guess i'll eventually check out some more songs, unsure whether they'll be to my taste tho.

Oh, let Jack White have some fun. I don't care about it and won't be hearing it, but I still love the White Stripes and I don't mind if he wants to a little something on the side.

They're useless compared to the Stripes, but it's an okay album on its own. Brendan Benson's voice is pretty pathetic compared to Jack's though.
One of the worst bands to come out in the last year or whatever. Jack White should quit music and go back to doing whatever bull**** he was doing before he decided to hook up with his pale girlfriend/sister bitch.

Calling Meg a bitch seems a bit extreme, doesn't it?
No matter what Jack does in his free time, the White Stripes still put out 4 incredible albums (or 5, depending on how much you like the debut) and they put on a great live show as well.
What else am I supposed to call a drummer that can't play drums?

Lars Ulrich?
Good one. Seriously, I laughed.

Yeah they are pretty decent.
Ive got their album and its slowly growing on me. I bought on the strength of, "steady as she goes" but I need to give it a few more listens.
I vote for the middle option.

Her playing is utterly perfect for what the Stripes do.
Lars Ulrich?
Nah, he can drum. He's just an asshole.
It's OK that I'm overwhelmed. But I don't ever want to remember this again. Is it ridiculous to commit this to a record? Maybe it's fair to commit this to a permanence as a feeling that can occur from time to time again, and it happens that so the next time it comes it at least won't feel lonely.

That single "Steady As She Goes" is really boring, but I've heard that their other songs are a lot more rockin'.
Not that it would make me buy the album, but it would definitely be a relief. Jack White is a decent guitarist and he deserves a rhythm section with something resembling talent.

Yeah. Jack White does have some talent. Meg's a prop. I don't even think I've heard The Raconteurs except maybe a bit of Steady As She Goes so I can't remember whether I liked it or not. Maybe it not being memorable is a bad sign.

Medio-core. theyve got some catchy songs but it just seems to bore me.
and as for megs drumming. If it wasnt simple and it was really technical i think the white stripes wouldnt be that good. the thing about the white stripes that really draws me in is the simplicity of them and the way they shape these amazings songs around simple chord progressions and simple drum beats.

Your theory is a good one, but it is missing one serious fact: Meg can't play the drums. There is simple, then there is untalented, and unfortunately Meg falls into the latter category. You could do simple drumming without making a mess of the whole song.
