I recently started to write songs (nothing good, but then again I'm sure hendrix didn' write purple haze on his first try either.), and I was wondering if it's considered bad to take licks from other songs, change them a little, and use them. I personally think it's okay, since I'm making them my own, but i just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Depends how much you change them; if they're just used for inspiration that's fine, but stealing a lick and changing two notes is blatant plageurism.

Yeah, I should have worded it better. I meant using them for inspiration. I would never do the latter (I think that's the word for it.)
