Which generally do you like better?
In my opinion Pitchfork tends to hype a lot better bands, but sometimes I don't know what they are thinking.
Ten times better than NME though, IMO.

I actually enjoy the occasional Pitchfork hyped bands.
Albums that get 9.0+ generally tend to be atleast decent, listenable albums.

Neither. Hype is gay.
Pitchfork because I am in love with Ryan Schreiber.

Pitchfork due to the fact that they cover different bands to NME.
Both are crap though. PF can deliever occasionally, but still...

Pitchfork.
Even though they may hype a not so good band now and then, I still prefer it over the whole British 'indie' thing that the NME is infatuated with.

NME is a joke, Pitchfork is bearable. I don't really read Pitchfork though - Mark Prindle is all I need.

I like to read PItchfork, but I generally only listen to the reviews I agree with  They have a decent news section though.
I only bought one NME and that was the John Peel one and it was OK I suppose. It's too ArticMonkeysCasabianBlocPartySnowPatrol for me. Meh, it's OK.
I only read Pitchfork for the news.

I like Pitchfork more, because their hype is 'ha ha' funny, while NME's is more 'let's watch the retarded kid poop in the urinal' funny.

I like Pitchfork because they gave possibly my favorite album (Source Tags and Codes) a perfect 10. But the fact that they give Tool and Mars Volta albums extremely low ratings is baffling. A pretentious music reviewer doesn't like a pretentious band? Pitchfork is the Mars Volta of the music industry and they should accept that.

I listen to music by way of the Alex Drosen grapevine.
Pitchfork is okay, but the albums they rate very high aren't usually that good.
Yeah Alex Drosen is definitely a better source.

i read pitchfork and gigwise. i'm very sceptical about pitchfork as sometimes they hype a load of crap, like the hold steady.
it really is sad what's happened to NME over the past few years, it's a disgrace now.

Two different kinds of pretentious, I think. It's like comparing an art nerd to a Star Trek nerd; both will annoy you, but each to a completely different effect.

physically maybe but mentally no. Pitchfork uses big words and complex sentences to hurt artists feelings, and to over hype them making them think there the kings of the world but both are guilty of that

The Onion A.V. Club is better than the lot of them. Mostly because it covers a wide range of lesser-known artists without slipping into self-indulgent excursions of prose and metaphors. But also because they like a lot of the bands I do, and I might have to quote a passage of theirs when I finally get around to that review of Menos El Oso by Minus The Bear :)

I maintain that Pitchfork is, the majority of the time, a fantastic publication.
This is the truth. It's easy to dislike Pitchfork because of its huge presence in the independent media and because it has some pretty annoying worshippers, but they're, by far, the most comprehensive and consistent independent music publication in the biz right now. Tiny Mix Tapes is giving them a run for their money, though.

Agreed. It's very easy to simply throw hate by the way of Pitchfork because of how strong of a control they seem to have on the industry. As an independent music fan we'd like to believe that the fan base consists of individual thinkers who choose what they like based on their personal perspective of its merit. Unfortunately the 'lemming' mentality spreads universally.
Oh, but I'd also like to state that Stylus and Cokemachineglow both do good work as well.
For a second I believed CMG's April Fool's joke. :o
Tiny Mix Tapes is a fantastic website. It used to be my homepage for a while.

Pitchfork.
I don't know why NME got such little votes. I like NME, they've been behind some of my favourite bands.

Nah, I'm pretty sure The Mars Volta is The Mars Volta of the music industry.
Most hyped bands, by any publication, end up being bad. Magazines and websites tend to interview bands and make them seem like 'the next big thing', then review the album and give it a lw score while saying it would be impossible for anyone to like them.
I was also upset with pitchforks review of The Mars Volta.
The Mars Volta should've gotten a 0.

Blasphemy.
Seriously, how could you call that unlistenable, when you have **** like Aiden in existence?
Just because there are ****tier bands out doesn't mean The Mars Volta should be given any slack.

I think the last sentence of the Pitchfork review of 10,000 Days is meant for Dei specifically:
But hey, the next time you're sneering at someone in a Tool shirt, just remember how retarded you look walking down the street with the words "The Boy Least Likely To" or "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" across your chest.
Picthfork because they don't name The Stone Roses the best album ever.
Picthfork because they don't name The Stone Roses the best album ever.
NME cause they name The Stone Roses as the best album ever. :smoke:
The Stone Roses are awesome.
I wasnt questioning that fanboy mcfanboy
Well they're my favourite band. So I have no problem with their place on the list. NME is wrong a lot, but when they're right, boy are they ****ing right.
They're only ever right when MOJO, Wire, or Q gets it right before they do, though.
Well I don't live in the UK. So...
Wow. I can't believe people outside the UK actually read the NME.
