So the other night I went and saw Poison the Well, and the band that opened for them actually blew me away. They are called As Cities Burn (http://www.myspace.com/ascitiesburn). I am sure most of you have heard them, and will probably flame me for bringing them up here, but I believe they had quite the hardcore aesthetic about them. Very energetic stage show, very heartfel lyrics, and they weren't dressed like scene fags :) But anyway, they were very good and very profiecient at their instruments. I loved them. Anyone else a fan here?

Anyways, I don't think their unorginal and they have good lyrics as well.
The Widow
dead man, were you ever alive?
or was i just a seed, buried deep inside
some woman you wed
right before you crawled out of her bed and crept down the hall
did you think of me?
did you even for a second hesitate in the doorway?
it's just something that i'd like to know
though i'd still love you if you told me
that you just walked away...
my god, what a world you love
where men bury their sons
and without thought just walk away
and my mother's heart breaks
like the water inside of her
dead man, is it being high that makes you alive?
it makes you leave behind three boys and a wife in 89'
and as the track marks inched their way up your arm
my mother taught my brothers and i not to call you daddy
but to call you father
but i believe there is something here to be learned of grace
cause i can't help but love you
no i can't help but love you
even with a heart that breaks like
the promises that you made
like the promises that you made
cause i still love you
my god, what a world you love
Not bad from my point of view...

Christian hardcore band As Cities Burn formed in Baton Rouge, LA, in the summer of 2002, originally comprising frontman T.J. Bonnette, his guitarist brother Cody, lead guitarist Colin Kimble, bassist Pascal Barone, and drummer Bryan Dixon.
I believe you gentlemen are reffering to this "hardcore":
Hardcore Punk was the most rigid and extreme variation of punk rock. Emerging in the early '80s, hardcore took the ideals of punk as far as it could go. The music was impossibly fast, the vocals were shouted, the riffs were simple, and the records looked (and sounded) like they were made in someone's basement. Most of the bands sounded incredibly similar to each other, but there was a handful of distinctive bands; they usually developed musically quite quickly, leaving the sound of hardcore behind, but not its ideals. Hardcore punk was primarily an American sensation and was concentrated in Los Angeles and New York, but there were small, individual scenes scattered across the country.
Yeah, it can be considered hardcore, but it is a branch of punk.

Alright, this is a really dumb thing to say. You can critisize my music for being "stupid" in your tastes. But in skill comparison with your "real hardcore" you can't say that. I will use cro mags as an example cause I probably havn't heard much else of what you guys like. But when looking at some of my bands instrumental skills vs. cro mags (representing your guys's music) then my bands could match that skill level and with certain bands even best it. This isn't a matter of what may sound good, its a matter of what is the most complex/difficult to play and how much talent they have.
I never called Norma Jean hardcore either you dumbass, I only had them in a list of bands that I enjoyed.

I think labeling is also a matter of opinion. Seeing as theres probably just as much people that like my music and label it as hardcore, as there is people that like yours and label it as hardcore. Who's to say which is right? I say it doesn't really matter. In your music there is definently punk influence in it though. You cant throw out history, and just say because the majority of people are ignorant means that we should all just keep quiet and change the proper definition so people that like shitty metal can keep calling what they listen to 'hardcore'.

Skill is irrelevent in this discussion. Some bands are more technical than others. So what? It doesn't automatically gives them a green card. And that shows how much you know. Not all the music discussed here is composed of basic power chords. Circle Takes The Square's drumming is probrally better than most of the bands you listen to. I can list more too, but that'll just be a waste of time. And sorry, but I don't listen to bands like Bring Me The Horizon.

Pretty much everything on your list of enjoyment is not nearly as good of musicianship you just claimed there. We aren't Julliard or Berklee students here. And I can accept facts, but who says things that come from you are facts? They are in no way facts, just statements of your opinion. As far as musical taste goes, everything is opinion. And IF CTTS is discussed here, then yeah, I appreciate it, but something like cro mags, I can't appreciate at all, that stuff hurts my ears to listen to. If you havn't noticed, this is an ACB thread. Pretty much everything on your list of enjoyment is not nearly as good of musicianship you just claimed there. We aren't Julliard or Berklee students here. We enjoy good hardcore but if you want to take your arguement of musicianship go to a teacher in one of those schools. Lets see what they tell you.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know what'd they say. But they'd have the same thing to say about your music as well. I was only comparing it to your music, no one elses.

Yeah, well it is here, so deal with it, stop complaining, or contribute something useful to a discussion about them.

vincent, you fu manchu mother f'ucker. do you have any idea what you are talking about?

Sorry Vincent I forgot that having fun with yourself is against the law. This conversation is over as far as I know. There is nothing to discuss. You lost but your skull is too thick to accept anything. As Cities Burn don't have anything to do with hardcore or emo. Some one didn't know that. Thats why the thread is here. My advise to you is to go learn and accept things or leave. I'll stop posting in this thread because its pointless and I advise everyone else to stop too.
Man...I tried. I tried to leave this kid alone. I even defended him a little. But I can't keep up this charade.
How the **** can someone say the Cro-Mags aren't good? I mean, they're the ****ing Cro-Mags.

Your so opinionated, not everyone likes your musical taste. Thats such a narrow minded thing to say, I'm sorry you feel that way.
Yeah my bad.
How the **** can someone who thinks they listen to hardcore say the Cro-Mags aren't good? I mean, they're the ****ing Cro-Mags.

Haha, alright.
Seriously what did you listen to? If it wasn't Age of Quarrel, then it might not be too late.

Well, on that site you sent me I listend to two songs. I forgot the ablum, but it was from the same one, I listened to the first one and the fifth one. The singing was mainly what threw me off, and I didn't really like the instrumentation but it was alright. According to the people here though, I do like Circle Takes the Square which is, in fact, a "hardcore" band. Do you?

Here's a hint, when dealing with bands like Cro-Mags don't defend yourself by saying you like an emo band. Both are hardcore but completely different ends of the spectrum, most kids that would go to a CTTS show today would get eaten alive and killed if they went to a Cro-Mags show back in the day.
