So yeah, I've really been digging this guy intensely for the past month or so. I already bought Original Pirate Music, which is a stellar debut to say the least, and A Grand Don't Come For Free, which is now one of my favorite albums ever, after a mere three weeks of owning it. And yes, I have heard his new material from The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living, and it's so disappointing, especially after the most-trumphant duo.

So any other fans of Mike Skinner?

Anyone seen the banned video of Blinded By The Lights? Cool stuff.

His first two albums were great. A Grand Don't Come For Free in particular was one of the best albums of 2004. His latest album on the other hand...all the humour in his lyrics seems to have pretty much evaporated, and that was a huge part of what made his music so likable, in my opinion. It's not even comparable to what he's done up to this point. :-/

Yeah, I've listened to the new one twice (on myspace) and I'm not going to buy it. It pretty much sucks.

Original Pirate Material and A Grand Don't Come For Free are excellent albums. I marginally prefer the latter though. I haven't heard anything from the new album, and I'm not sure if I want to, as I've heard nothing good said about it. I suppose I will hear it eventually though.

What happens in it? I've seen the first half of a video for it, and he is at a wedding or something. The lyrics to that song have already created such a clear picture in my head though, so when I saw the video it didn't seem right to me, and I stopped watching.

If that's the one where it follows him on a night getting mashed off his face on drugs/alcohol etc. then yes. Very powerful video.

I'm a big fan of The Streets. The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living is a little disappointing, but it still has some decent stuff on it. I enjoy it anyway.

And yeah, the video for "Blinded by the Lights" is really cool. It's pretty much what I pictured from just listening to the song, except that it's set at a wedding reception or something similar (as mentioned above), whereas I pictured a dark club.

Yeah, I had the whole dark club thing set in my mind as well.

Loved the first two albums, can't say the same for the latest one. Though A Grand Don't Come for Free took a few months to really hit me, so we'll see.

edit: favourite songs are "Empty Cans", "Irony of it All" and "Stay Positive".

I'm not disappointed at all by the new record. I think it's fantastic.
