i have an epi G-400 and i just installed a dimarzio super distortion dp100 in the bridge and a PAF Pro DP151 in the neck. I installed them both myself. However, when i play my bridge pickup through my amp, it breaks up and crackles. Upon looking for the problem, i found that the rods on the super distortion do not line up with the strings. If i get the bottom strings to line up, the top strings do not line up. They line up on my neck pickup though. I figured this is because of the difference in string spacing between in neck and bridge. How do I fix this problem with my bridge pup?? do i need to buy an f-spaced pickup for the bridge??

Pictures? I'd help you, but I'm getting a headache trying to figure out exactly what you are saying.

you may have to buy another pickup to fit the bridge.

The crackling is not because on the pole peices not lining up, thats another problam, most likely a bad connection.
With the super distortion is the pole spread too wide or too small, for a epiphone you shouldn't need a f spaced pickup.

all im trying to say is that the bridge pickup rods do not line up with the strings. im wondering if i have to buy an F-spaced pickup for the bridge.

all those views are from directly above the pup. The e string starts out right in the middle, but as you get down to the lower strings, the rods move more off-center until you get to the low E where the rod is not under it at all.

that really wont make much of a difference at all. maybe a very slight difference in how well hte E is picked up, but doubtful. i can pull the strings away like an inch and a half and still get sound of of my strat. (maybe further, i didn't really measure)
the crackleing is probably, as stated above, a bad connection or something. check all your solder joints, and resolder what isn't connected well. might have a bad wire somewhere too.

maybe im just thinking outloud here but maybe ur supposed to flip the pickup the other way not with the pole peices down just rotate it 180 degrees

yes I own a G-400 and had a paf pro pickups installed in the bridge. They told me it would need to b the f-spaced one. I assume that's the one they put in.

thats odd, the g-400 must have a funny shaped bridge to need f-spaced pups
