Wee, another thread from me.

Since I can't get a new bass right now due to lack of funds, and I don't want to shell out the money for a custom neck with a 35" scale that will fit my fretless jazz copy's neck pocket, I'm looking for tighter strings.

I'm looking at either:

D'Addario EXL160-5 (.135-.105-.085-.070-.050) (B = 36.1lbs tension)
D'Addario EXL170-5SL (.130-.100-.080-.065-.045) (B = 39lbs tension)
DR Lo-Riders MHS-45 (but with the .130 B)

I'm not sure of the tension on the DRs, however the question I have is whether the EXL170-5SL will really have that tightness. Due to the fact that they are meant for "super long" scaled basses, and I only have a 34" scale on the bass these will be going on, I don't know if the tension will really be that tight. If it will be that tight, I'll be ordering those strings since I can't play with this floppy B that I have right now. Even with the action ALL the way up.

if they are made for a 35" scale and you only have a 34" scale then they wont have as much tension as that says you should probably get the
EXL160-5 's

Any other opinions/facts?

This guy on the Nile forums is highly recommending that I get the MHS-45 with the .130 B. He says that the Lo-Riders are very stiff, and that with a .125 he can tune to A# with no problems whatsoever on a 35" Spector. Same with Alex Webster and his Modulus and Spector basses.

I realize it's different because I'm on a much cheaper 34" scale jazz copy, however I'm thinking it's worth a shot (and the $35).

I'd still like other opinions on that or the EXL160-5s.

Bumpage double-post.

I've heard that the SX stock bridges are terrible. Do you think a Schaller or Mighty Mite bridge would increase the B tension a bit? Somebody on talkbass recommended that I get a new bridge, but I don't know if I want to get a new bridge (probably a Schaller with the rollers) or strings first.
