When were the "good" squiers made? I think i found one, since it has the main fender logo on the headstock, but it has the tiny squier logo near the top. Isn't this a way to recognize the better made squiers from japan?

Question - do you like the way it plays?
If you do, does it matter where it was made? A good bass is a good bass.
If you don't... does it matter where it was made? A bad bass is a bad bass.
Sure, it's nice to know a bit about your instrument, just something to consider.

well, they made the Supersonic guitar in the early nineties, and that was awesome.
it was good enough that on my band's CD, the two guitars we used were my $1000+ Gretsch, and the Squier Supersonic. seems like an odd pair, but that Squier kicks arse.
so if that was made in the early nineties, maybe some early 90's Squier basses might be good too.

Yep. We have a japanese squier p-bass at college. It's a pile of cr*p though because its been badly treat over the years.
We also have a squier jazz.. which is actually gorgeous!! It plays and sounds nearly, if not as good as the MIA jazzes I've played! And it keeps tune well.
I want to buy it off the college... :-/

my squier was a great bass to learn on
and i thought its tone was good (up untill i got my ibanez btb)
but it was a very good bass to start with
and now its my fretless back-up(it had frets to start)
lol
so i think they are good to start with
but compared to other basses they are kina junk(tone wise)

Yes, but we are talking about the "good" squiers, aka, the Pre Made in Korea ones.

i agree with Wintermute but to answear your question: yes, that is the sign of a 'good' squier as all pre Korea made Squiers featured that design on the headstock
p.s the 'good' ones were made during the 80's
