P- bass pickups?

I got an old p-bass, and it's kinda dull sounding, i was wondering if anyone had any tips to spicing up the sound. they are just stock pickups. i also don't have much in the way of finacial resources, and know next to nothing about electronics. if anyone can help me out i'd appreciate it.

well, first, if you haven't already, put some new strings on. other than that... the only free thing that i can think of would be to bypass all the tone and volume controls to get all the output and raw power of the pups. for a fairly cheap fix (USD$80 ? i think) get some Seymore Duncan Basslines SPB-3 Quarter-Pounders to put in. Those are probably the best P-bass pups you get with not a lot of money.
