From Aenima;
Stinkfist
Aenema
46&2
Eulogy

From Lateralus;
The Grudge
Lateralis (or Lateralus)
Parabol/Parabola (two songs, that blend together)
Ticks and Leeches

From Undertow;
Prison Sex
Bottom
Sober
Swamp Song

Kept it down to four from each (of their 'real' albums), so you don't end up just downloading the whole things.

Id like to know some bands sounding like:
-Slipknot
-rage against the machine
-Black label society

Especially some Slipknot-type would be great (vocal-wise), because i like corey's deeper voice than some Melodic death Metal Screams like CoB, although i love in Flames!...Thanks.

Mushroomhead is pretty similar to Slipknot, both in music and vocals, but they experiment more.

I've only heard one album by Quo Vadis (Day Into Night), and two unmixed mp3s from their forthcoming album, one of which, Silence Calls the Storm, is amazing, but I can't find either at the moment.

Day Into Night is great though, so I imagine they're just well worth checking out in general.

I'm pretty familiar with the main five thrash bands:

I've got quite a hefty favour to ask. Could anyone recommend me any band that is heavily blues influenced, without actually being blues? I have to present a media presentation on the blues, and I could use as many artists as possible. It can be in any genre, really. I just need some blues influenced music to show how much of an impact the blues had and still have on music.

A good example of a (currently) easily recognisable blues influenced rock band, whether you like them or not, is The White Stripes. It's not so evident on White Blood Cells, but De Stijl (what I've heard of it anyway, and according to reviews) was more bluesy. I suspect you probably had them down already though, so I'm sorry I can't help more.

Dark Angel, Kreator, and Testament, perhaps.

I need eastern asian folk music. Really.
Thanks dude.
And as for asian folk music..hmm..

Dude, I'm sorry, I'm not really amazingly up on the southeast Asian style of music,

I do however, know a crap load about Indian music, so I'll give you a few recomendations for it.

Ravi Shankar:
Raga: Jhimjhoti,
Raga: Patdeep,
Raga: Devgiri Bilawal,
Raga: Rasia.

All these works are pretty seminal, and very long, so you'll want to take that into account, but you really have to appreciate what kind of musician Shankar was, he was a legend and the only way to express it, I guess is through pieces like this.

(Ustad ) Ali Akbar Khan:
Raga Marwa (alap),
Raga Puviya Kalyan (gat in tintal),
Gauri Manjari,
Jogiya Kalingra.

Again, all extended pieces, I got a greatest hits (kinda scene) of this, and it had just three songs on it, so that tells you of the quality of the musicianship.

Meh, that marks my input on the Hindustani Classical Music genre,
The only other indian genre I know is bollywood, so here's some more tracks I guess.

Asha Bhosle:
In Aankhon Ki Masti,
Yeh Hai Reshmi Zulfon Ka Andhera,
Dum Maro Dum,
Chura Liya Hai Tum Ne - Mohd. Rafi.

You're really entering the cheesey world of Eastern music, and to be honest man, there's not much in Bollywood style music, a lot of it is incredibly tacky, cliché and not very well aranged. The first recomendations are a lot better, but this should be an O.K starting point to start understanding a lot more of music from the East

Hope some of this helps you,
:)

The aim of this thread is this:

When someone asks for a recomendation, I.E: "Can someone recomend me a blues song, that has a slide guitar part?"

and someone who knows about the subject will answer:

"Yeah, Travelling Riverside Blues"

Throwing random recomendations won't usually go down well, but you're relatively new I suppose so we can forgive you :)

In this thread you cannot just say a random band or song to recommend for all to listen to. People have to ask for a genre, band or song. If you know a good genre, band or song to recommend, that fits the question, then you post in this thread.

Example:

Metallica - Battery
Damage Inc
Fight Fire With Fire
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Creeping Death
Blackened
The Shortest Straw
Dyers Eve
Sad But True
Holier Than Thou

Dream Theater - 6:00
Lie
Under a Glass Moon
Beyond this Life
Home
The Glass Prison

also for you I'd reccammend any of DT's songs off of Train of Thought except for Vacant. That would be As I Am, This Dying Soul, Endless Sacrifice, Honor They Father, Stream of Conciousness, and In the Name of God.

I'm going into town tommorow, to buy 2112 by Rush, that's for sure.

But I'm not 100% sure what else to get, I was thinking, Hemispheres or Carress Of Steel, both by Rush.

Or maybe even a Dream Theater album, I.E which is the best Dream Theater album.

On Dream Theater:
Train Of thought is Very Heavy and Shreddy.
Scenes From a Memory has heavy moments, mellow moments and lot's of technical moments. IMO it contains all of the classic Dream Theater elements, and is there most rounded album.
Falling Into Infinity is overal Mellow.
Awake is again a mix of Heavyness and Mellowness.
Six Degrees of Inner turbulence has it's heavy moments, and also it's mellow momments.

I have most of these over AIM if you want.

Stratovarius

Stratovarius; my immediate reccomendation would be simply "steer clear" (unless you're already hugely into power metal, I suppose). If you're determined though, try Hunting High and Low, Millenium or Infinity.

Kalmah;
Heroes to Us
Burbot's Revenge
The Third, The Magical
Bird of Ill Omen
Heritance of Berija
Black Roija

Death - earlier;
Infernal Death
Evil Dead
Zombie Ritual
Scream Bloody Gore

Death - later
Flattening of Emotions
Crystal Mountain
Voice of the Soul
Suicide Machine

Band - Albums - Songs

Thrash -
Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying, Killing is my Business... and Business is Good, Rust in Peace - Holy Wars, Peace Sells, Wake Up Dead, Rattlehead, Skull Beneath the Skin, Loved to Deth, Tornado of Souls

Slayer - Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss - Angel of Death, Raining Blood, Postmortem, South of Heaven, Mandatory Suicide, Seasons in the Abyss

Anthrax - Among the Living - Among the Living, Caught in a Mosh

Testament - The Legacy, The New Order, Practice What You Preach - Into the Pit, The New Order, Disciples of the Watch, Practice What You Preach, Sins of Omission

Exodus - Bonded By Blood, Fabulous Disaster, Tempo of the ****ed - Bonded By Blood, A Lesson in Violence, Piranha, Toxic Waltz, Tempo of the ****ed

As for death metal I'd reccomend Morbid Angel's album Covenant or Altars of Madness and Nile's In Their Darkened Shrines and At the Catacombs.

EDIT: To the guy who asked for Anthrax, that song is off of Among the Living, a very good album to start with.

For Sepultura, listen to these albums, and only these albums

Schizophernia
-From the Past comes the Storms
-To the Wall
-Escape to the Void
-Screams behind the Shadows
-The Abyss
-R.I.P (Rest in Pain)
-Troops of Doom

Beneath the Remains
-Beneath the Remains
-Inner Self
-Stronger Than Hate
-Mass Hypnosis
-Slaves of Pain
-Lobotomy

Arise
-Arise
-Dead Embryonic Cells
-Desperate Cry
-Subtraction
-Altered States

Also check out their Live album (Under A Pale Grey Sky Live), it won't dissapoint for a Sepultura fan, and that was the album that mainly got me into Sepultura. If you want, try Morbid Visions and Chaos A.D as well, but they're both weaker than the three albums above.

I've really been hooked on the band Therion for a while now...you guys should check them out!! Progressive/symphonic metal with full male+female choirs filling the vocal role. They have soloists ocassionally, and Christofer grunts once or twice in a blue moon (the band actually started as a death metal band before going the symphonic route), so it's a very unique and interesting approach to metal music. I'm really into the symphonic sound, bands like Nightwish, After Forever, and Symphony X, but Therion really takes it to the next level by employing over 100 musicians on their latest album and really exploring the possibilities of multiple singers. The band is fronted by the creative genius of Christofer Johnsson, an enigmatic prodigy who conceives of these huge, sweeping symphonic compositions despite not having any formal musical background. I don't know how he does it, but holy **** does he!

"Secret of the Runes" is a fantastic record, a personal favorite of mine. It's somewhat of a concept album, dedicated and inspired completely by Norse Mythology. It's probably the band's most technical album, with lots of sweet guitar solos and complex choir arrangements (very beautiful). I recommend "Midgard," "Asgard," "Muspelheim," and "Vanaheim" especially from this record, but I love every song.

"Lemuria/Sirius B" is the name of Therion's latest two albums, which were released together as a double disc package. I'm more partial towards Lemuria, but both are good. I recommend "Typhon," "Utharka Runa," "Three Ships of Berik Parts 1 and 2," and "Feuer Overtüre/Prometheus entfesselt," for an interesting musical reference to Rammstein (Rammstein style approach using bass/bari choir and symphonic music).

"Vovin" is often considered the group's classic, and has some very memorable songs. From this record, "Wine of Alluqah," "Birth of Venus Illegitima," and "The Rise of Sodom and Gamorrah" are particularly good tunes.

Check these guys out, they're awesome.

Do you have Theli or Deggial?

Yeah, both are fantastic albums. :) IMO, picking up Kristian Niemann as a lead guitarist was nothing but good though...that guy is great, highly underrated. He's been on since Secret of the Runes, I believe.

I can't, but ask in the death heads thread, you should get answers.

Det - good post, but this thread is for answering other people's recommendations, not just recommending whatever you like :) I may check out Therion more though, I've only heard a few songs. Incidentally, did you ever actually look into Hollenthon?

Oh. Whoops...I can never get these "official" threads straight. Hollenthon...ah! Righto, I'll check 'em out. :) Hmm...their webpage hasn't been updated since 2002! Are they done? Listened to a few samples...sounds pretty cool so far. Symphonic black/death? So far, it's pretty much up my alley.

I hope not..I'd heard rumours of them (well, him) starting work on a new album. I just remember you saying in two separate threads that you were thinking of checking them out, so I was wondering if you ever had :)

Songs -
Lake Bodom
Warheart
Silent Night Bodom Night
Bed of Razors
Wrath Within
Children of Bodom
Downfall
Follow the Reaper
Children of Decadence
Hate Me
Northern Comfort
Kissing the Shadows
Needled 24/7
Sixpounder
Bodom Beach Terror
Triple Corpse Hammerblow

Album wise, go for Follow the Reaper first. Then, if you like cleaner vocal style, then get Hate Crew Deathroll, if you don't, then get Hatebreeder.

Enjoy.

EDIT: Which Arch Enemy album should I go for, Burning Bridges or Black Earth? I have Wages of Sin, the first four songs are excellent, and the rest is mediocre. But I really like the Rare and Unreleased album that came with it.

And what Dark Tranquiltiy is better, The Gallery or Damage Done?

Sure dude, here's some albums and their best songs:

Solitude Dominaince Tragedy
-Solitude Within
-The Shocking Truth
-She Speaks to the Dead
-****ation

Recreation Day
-The Great Deciever
-End of Your Days
-Recreation Day
-Blinded
-Your Darkest Hour

Those are the 2 I've heard by them, and IMO Recreation Day is a bit better than Solitude Dominaince Tragedy, but check them both out if you can, Great Power Metal :thumb:

can anyone tell me the best Iced earth album?

Well depends. They're Thrashiest album I'd say would be "Night of the Stormrider", and overall that's probably my favorite too. But "Burnt Offerings" is a wicked album too, but it's quote a bit different then the others. "Dark Saga" is they're softest work, and I think os very underated, cuase it's also a great album. And lastly "Wolf" is probably their heaviest work, and it's just as good as all the others.

Alarum, an Australian death metal band, seem to want to be Cynic, so they should work. There's a link floating around somewhere, but I without the search function I don't know how easy it'll be to find.

Canvas Solaris are an American band, purely instrumental, but rather like progressive death metal instrumental than, say, Spastic Ink.

Sleep Terror are a band I only just found out about recently, and haven't had too much of a chance to listen to, but so far they sound great. (www.myspace.com/sleepterror)

Phlebotomized, another American band, who released an amazing album called Immense Intense Suspense, might also work for you, so check them out if you can.

Death - Voice of The Soul

In Flames - Timeless
Arcturus - Ad Astra
At The Gates - And the World Returned

Dream Theater - The Dance of Eternity
Dream Theater - Stream Of Consciousness
Dream Theater - YTSE Jam
