I recommend MACHINE HEAD and GODSMACK and DROWNING POOL

Three best Heavy metal/hard rock bands out there. If you like Pantera or Metallica etc. I'm pretty sure you'll love at least one of them bands^

As for the person asking about best Pantera cds I'd say them all... They've all got a few songs with killer riffs on them. So no matter which one or ones you buy you're gonna like 'em.

Read the god damn ****in' thread rules you god damn morons! ****in' hell, are you all blind?

Hopefully this will catch peoples attentions about this :

you obviously don't read the thread. This is about awnsering requests, not just randomly throwing out albums/songs for no reason. And if you are going to suggest something, just don't make a list. Give justified reasons behind it to give people insentive to check it out or spark some intrest.

This needs to be reposted

Meshuggah doesn't really have anything effects wise thats weird, but they do have the most messed up insane time signatures, so I'm not too sure if that's what you really want, but give em a try if you havent yet

I think the problem is that once the thread has more than one page people just skip to the second and never really bother reading what the thread is about.

Yes has a fantastic bass player too. Chris Squire is arguably better than Geddy.

You'd probably like Rush. I didn't think I'd like Rush after hearing it from my friend all the time. Now I love it. They are a great band. I'd say the era would be the 70's.

Farmakon, maybe. A bit faster than Opeth in general, but I remember a song of theirs (that I recommended) being reviewed as "TOTAL OPETH WORSHIP 10/10" in Forced Listening. Try the song Loosely of Amoebas.

Maybe also Agalloch. A little more folky, and also a little more inaccessible than Opeth, I think. Harsher, or bleaker, maybe. Excellent though. Try The Mantle (the album).

I'm finally going to give Dream Theater a second chance. I want to know the best album to purchase, I don't need any single tracks. I've been hearing it's Awake, but I want to be sure.

I thought it might have been best to start him off with something smaller and then hit him with the masterpiece after, That way he might appreciate it more

SFAM is the most accesible DT album IMO because it contains all the elements of DT, but in smaller ammounts than usual. Also trying to figure out the concept behind it is bound to keep anyone entertained for a good while :)

I don't know, I think Images and Words and Train of Thought are great DT to start off on...I love em both, more than SFAM, though...Overture 1928 owns my *** :)

Images and Words and TOT are too extreme for getting into them I think.
SFAM gives a perfect representation of the band and all their parts, where as TOT is leaning more towards the the heavy, shred sound and IAW is very proggy and soft.
SFAm represents both these apsects and combines them brillantly, so IMO it would be the best album to be introduced to them with.

I feel the need to recommend "Fony" as they should be alot bigger than they are. www.fonymusic.com check out a few of their songs in the download section of their site :) Its metaly quite heavy, but not like killswitch or machine head

American Beauty and Working Man's Dead are generally considered their best, although I find American Beauty to be very bland. If you're looking for more psychadelic stuff, Live Dead and Aoxomoxoa are both great.

Also lookin for some classic rock reccomendations. At the moment I like Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Deep Purple.

as for classic rock, check out the who and rush. "won't get fooled again", "pinball wizard", and "my generation" are good who tunes, and "2112", "spirit of radio", "yyz", and "working man" are some of rush's best.

Metalcore - Between the Buried and me (More like technical death metal with emo sections but it's close and good), Converge (again, this is hardcore I think but very good and close), Dillinger Escape Plan (Progressive hardcore grindcore)

Sorry that's as well as I can do. I don't like most Metalcore but this stuff is all somewhat close and very good.

On a side note, can someone recommend me good Doom besides Candlemass(Whom I'm already familiar with)?

Solitude Aeturnus. Try the song Spiral Descent, it's just awesome.

^Arghoslent too are more than worth checking out for melodic death metal. Incorrigible Bigotry is more or less perfect, in my opinion.

I only have their Where Dreams Turn to Dust EP, but it's very good. It's just three songs;

Eternal Autumn
Wish
Of Sorrow Blue

but it comes to about half an hour of music.

In fact, I'll upload Wish for you to check out. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

It is a very good album, I would recommend taking a look at Bartender's review of it.

I agree with Gilmour. It is a great album. You can go to www.toolband.com and preview a number of the tracks on it. Also, may i suggest you give it time. Some people who hear Tool think its very strange and just don't give it a chance. Be patient and I am sure you will like it.

Lateralus would be an album of epics. It's great stuff with great crescendos, but if you like your rock with more of a flow and melody (getting to the point) then I recommend Aenima or Undertow. (Opiate was alright, just wasn't a distinguished EP.)

CoB = Hatebreeder or Follow The Reaper, they both own and are their best imo.

Shadows Fall = The Art Of Balance

You can't go wrong with any CoB CD. They are all extremely good.

Far as I know, there aren't any other death metal bands with heavy neoclassical playing. But the closest thing to them would be other technical death bands like:

Cryptopsy
Spawn of Possession
Atheist(more jazzy, less death)
Decrepit Birth
Demilich
Quo Vadis
Psycroptic
Lykathe Aflame
Suffocation
Theory in Practice
Decapitated
Wormed

Live at Budokan is amazing, but I reccomend the DVD over the cd.
Train of Thought is heavy and very shreddy.
Scenes from a memory is their most rounded album I think, and most accessible.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a Led Zeppelin maniac who is also quite fond of Jeff and Tim Buckley, Pink Floyd, RATM, Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, Mogwai, My Bloody Valentine, Soundgarden , Silverchair to name but a few?

Merci beaucoup :)

Can't go wrong with Relationship of Command for ATD-I. The EP's all have dodgy recording and some are hard to find, Relationship...is the easiest to get into.

What do people think is the best Nevermore album?

I'm not too big a fan of either of those bands. Try asking in the Alt/Indie forum, though. I think you'd find a lot of bands/artists which are to your taste in there.
