What would anybody consider to be the most destructofying explodofying and most unlistinable extreme music known to man?
one that would create such an awsome wall of sound that it would shatter n00b ears upon first listening.
Black/death/grind whatever would be acceptable
i'm using this as an example of what kind of noise explosions i'm looking for as its the most extreme example in my (limited) music collection.
http://musica.mustdie.ru/en/band/gorgoroth/3845/
Atari Teenage Riot's Burn. Burlin, Burn! This is the heaviest mess of noise that i have heard in a long time.

Metal Church

early Annihilator
I'm sure the guys in the thrash thread will be much more helpful :p
I´d add Nuclear Assault and Forbidden to that list. Not really THAT similar, but if you like Overkill you´ll usually like those two as well.

I was messin around with the guitar like usual, and I thought up a couple rhythms and put them together, but I don't really know what genre/s it sounds like. It will have both screaming and vocals when it is complete. Here is the clip:

Kinda sounds like Blink 182 or that one really popular song by Switchfoot, I forgot it's name though.
AuDioFreaK39

yeah, I kinda based it off of Meant to Live by Switchfoot, but then it's more melodic. I just don't know which genre it would be classified as if it involves screaming and singing.

Could anyone please recommend some good folk metal in the vein of Wintersun, Ensiferum, Kalmah, and Finntroll, as well as black metal without the terrible production (besides the newer Dimmu Borgir).
Also, what is considered to be DragonForce's best CD?

Dragonforce's best cd is either Inhuman Rampage or the upcoming Inhuman Rampage
Some BM I've discovered (and I hate ****ty production) is as follows:
1349 - Hellfire
Anorexia Nervosa - Drudenhaus
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Immortal - Sons Of Northern Darkness
Naglfar - Sheol
They're not the most "true" black metal albums by any means, but I like them. Sorry, I can't help with the folk metal stuff though.

I have Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse and must say that the production value is nauseating. It's awesome music though, once you break through the fuzz.
And thanks for the DragonForce recommendation :thumb: I'll probably end up asking Jay about the folk, anyway.

Thrash or speed like Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest, Annihilator, Megadeth, you might want to check out power metal bands like Sonata Arctica, Angra, Blind Guardian.
Or something popular like Metallica or Iron Maiden.

3 inches of blood(vocalist sounds like Halford lol), Black Label Society, pantera, mushroomhead, mudvayne, Sepultura(you might qualify that as growling, i don't know), soilwork. You probably already listen to some of these, If you were asking for growling metal, i could of helped you out better.
What's some good progressive (rock or metal) stuff? Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree are the only progressive bands I really know.

Thanks stoic and txus even though i already knew about moonsorrow.
I have another question, Now normally i would be against trying to "convert" people to listen to my kind of music, but desperate times call for desperate measures: i'm sick to death of being the only person i know who listens to metal. can anybody think of some good bands/albums/songs that non-metalheads might enjoy, and could potentially lead them down the path towards metaldom? especially for people who listen green day, and that kinda stuff...
Well man first I guess you'd have to begin with rock stuff (like Evanescence)
the next step would be giving them some gothic metal (Within Temptation, Sentenced....... they won't notice the difference) then give it a little harder style (like Nightwish, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian) then give them some HEAVY ****ING METAL (Iron Maiden, Manowar, Judas Priest) then start with the growl vocals, best choice would be some melodic death metal (Children Of Bodom, In Flames, Norther, Kalmah, Wintersun and even Opeth) at this point some symphonic/black metal could help in making raw black metal sound more comfortable (Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth)Then start with the Black side of metal (Immortal, Emperor, Darkthrone).
Then you'll have metalheads who listen to metal more than you, Good Luck man.

Try some less extreme stuff first. I got my sister into metal by doing the following:
I got her into AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath by playing it a lot whenever she was around.
I then started playing Metallica, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
I then I began to play Helloween, Dream Theater and Symphony X.
I then tried some Melo-Death, but she didn't like the vocals. Start lighter and then get progressively heavier. My sister seems to like power metal now. Also point out that all metal bands are not devil worshipers who are homicidal/suicidal. Point out the level of musicianship that many bands have.
Just remember that metal isn't for everyone and that being too pushy could turn them off.
EDIT: Beaten because of two finger typing. Damn my own two hands!

I'd also recommend keeping them away from anything overly technical at first. Stuff like that needs to grow on some people.
Before I started listening to metal I was really put off by bands like Death, early Metallica and Megadeth. Now they're some of my favourites.

Start with Opeth's Damnation, and work your way from there. :)
Opera metal, in Nightwish fashion:

Epica

I've tried some power metal, are any of those bands like Hammerfall, because they don't appeal so much to me. And also, I'm looking for a band without synthesisers or keyboards like Sonata Arctica. I guess another way of saying what I'm looking for is... Dual guitars, mostly harmonized with solo's in most of the songs, and leads throughout, also not exactly a rythym and lead player, but more dual lead guitars like Iron Maiden. Some decent muscianship with the drums and bass would be good, and the bass should be audible. The vocals are mostly sung, some screaming is acceptable but not to much. And with that the vocals could be somewhat naisly, I liked M. Shadows voice on the new album from A7X (as you can see from my avator). Lyricaly, not bland and unoriginal stuff, I'd prefer some original stuff. E.g. if the band was power metal band then the lyrics main focus wouldn't be science fiction, or fantasy.

Post is what happens when you take influences from one genre, but take it somewhere relatively far from where it started, so that it's clearly not said genre, but the influence is still clear.

^It's like a progression of the style, basically, but without necessarily using qualities that would get them called prog rock. So post punk is punk that doesn't sound like what you would just call, "punk". A well known (I think) quote about post rock seems to be "using rock instrumentation to create non-rock-like music", or something to that effect.
EDIT: typed that before Malaclypse there posted.

Eucharist. Get Mirrorworlds.
So, lately, I've been listening to a lot of stuff off of the Underworld and Matrix soundtracks (both of the Underworld ones, and the first two Matrix ones), and I'm really digging a lot of the more Industrial type stuff, and I was wondering if there was anything anybody else in here could recommend for me?
Examples of what I really like (for those who have heard them):
Aiden - The Last Sunrise (Dust Mix) (Just this version though, I don't mean the original song)
Marilyn Manson - This Is The New Sh*t
Rammstein - Du Haust
Rob Zombie - Reload
A Perfect Circle - Judith (Renholder Mix)
SKinny Puppy - Optimissed
And I generally like a lot of Marilyn Manson and some MSI stuff.
So please, throw some more of it in my direction!

What exactly is trip hop (I dont recognize any of the bands listed)?
Bartender
01-30-2006, 08:28 AM
It's music which basically grew out of a tiny little sample (as in DJs sampling records) culture in Bristol. The name comes about because a lot of the music (as opposed to the vocals) bears a passing resemblance to hip-hop, only cooler, downtempo and more soulful. Or 'trippy'. As a result it bears practically no resemblance to metal.. but you might like it. All kinds of people do. There don't seem to be pre-requisite likings, to liking trip hop.
Key albums if you do want to check it out are Massive Attack - Mezzanine (if nothing else, the song "Teardrop"), and DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.., which together effectively killed trip hop as it was being born, by being so perfect that no one really felt they could be topped.

Can anyone recommend me some music in the style of Between the buried and me. If you have listened to their newest album Alaska, in a lot of their songs the guitarwork is very powerful, for example, the intro to the song "Alaska". And the chorus in "All bodies" when the singer says "We are just mortal souls, left to die" then the guitarist goes into an arpeggio type riff.
Could someone recommend me some metal/metalcore bands with more of those kinds of riffs? Thanks.

Classic rock is just about the most general derivative of rock, so a bit more info on what you like might narrow things down. As it stands, try the James Gang, Free, Bad Company, The Yardbirds, The Animals, The Travelling Wilburys, Mott The Hoople, Hanoi Rocks, Jeff Beck
