I want to switch the capacitors out in my ds1 to give me more distortion.what kind of capacitors do put in there/which ones do I replace?

thanks in advance

If anything, you're gonna want to replace diodes/transistors.

But I dunno which.

If you have a diode pair in the circuit you can add more diodes in to alter the distortion - I do not know if it will give 'more' distortion.

Changing the input/output capacitors will only change the amount of bass going in/out of the circuit.

i agree with him he sounds smart:amaze:

Replacing some resistors in the pedal could alter the bias point and gain of the amplifying transistor used. Which may give you more distortion.
Of course, at the expense of a decreased life of the transistor itself and a decreased battery life.

I don't know much about the guts of those pedals or how they work tho.
So i wouldn't be able to give you much more of an idea on what you could actually do other than that.

Maybe they do use diodes to introduce clipping. *shrugs*

But anyway, as mentioned, changing capacitors wont do crap.

yep, caps only determine how the bass output's affected, nothing to do with distortion at all... now if ur runnin a guitar distortion on a bass, changing caps will give u a better tone suited for your bass

Capacitors are what make your guitars tone knob cut the highs. It won't effect the amount of gain.

I beg do differ with most everyone in this thread. I replaced the C2 in my ds-1, as well as another C of which I cant remember atm, to 1 instead of the stock .47 just to mess around, and wow, the C i cant remember added an insane amount of gain. Not really practical, but it is there.

u sure it added "more gain"?? or did it just fool ur ears into thinkin so, because all that shoulda done was allowed more bass through your pedal
