So Alice in Chains, one of the best of the grunge/alternative bands of the early 90s, have decided to get a new singer, go back on tour and release a new album. What are your thoughts?

For myself, I'm in 2 minds - Jerry Cantrell was the creative force behind the band, so I don't see song quality dropping off too far (if at all). But on the other hand, Layne Staley was "the voice" of Alice in Chains, and gave the band its identity. I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't really know - I don't like Cantrell's solo stuff, so I'd be disappointed if it turned out like that.

I'm pretty sure that they're gonna change their name if they start recording again....Jerry said that, or at least I think he did.

I'd love to see them live, and I'm sure I probably will now...which is great. But if they were to make another album under the same name then I would be disapointed.

I'm pretty sure it'll be good. I trust Jerry in the fact that he wouldn't fill in for Layne (who had an amazing voice) unless he was totally sure he could do it. Plus, since Layne died when I was like twelve, it gives me a chance to see them live....oh man...Man In The Box live *drool*

I love Alice in Chains. Dirt is such an amazing album.

Anyway, Layne was the most important part of them in my opinion, so I hope whoever replaces him be just as impressive.

All we can hope is that they don't butcher anything. I hope I get to chance to see them mind you, just for the songs being played live.

I can't say I was too impressed with Phil Anselmo on that track, but I would be interested in seeing the whole show.

I like how they intend to do this with a wide variety of singers (even though the Puddle of Mudd guy is a terrible choice, for one). I hope they get Sully Erna to do it, I'm sure he wouldn't mind ;)

they probably will, word is that the musicians (minus erna) of godsmack are splitting off and doing a side project anyways.

Ehh, the best thing about AIC for me was Layne because his voice set them apart. Cantrell's solo stuff is poor, at least Degradation Trip is so I can't see it being great.

Not so sure about that - they are touring with one guy all through Europe and several guests: http://www.aliceinchains.com/

Yeah, DuVall is pretty much the singer on the new tour. but with some special guests, like Duff Mckagan :D
