I just cant seem to grasp that standard 2-4 swing rythm and it really throws me off, I always find myself playing straight 8ths in a latin feel after about 4 bars.....

I understand *how to practice it*, i.e. get a metronome, but just cant seem to grasp that rythm, so if you gays can help me in any way please help.

Dont think this will matter much but I play guitar.

If that ^^^^ makes no sense just say the word and I'll try to clarify.

Listening is the answer. Listen to as much jazz as you possibly can, and it'll just soak in over time.

metronomes are the worst IMO for swing!

Are you reading the music? I only ask, because reading how swing is meant to be played is kinda a conundrum on its own IMO. (*pun!:P )

To me, I would totally disregard how the western 'classically' based scores, score Swing. Its too easy to muck up.

You have to think of swing rhythms in terms of triplets rather than quavers... sorta. Gee.. Im not helping.

Though the former posters are correct in listening to it more.

A swing eighth note rhythm is 2 triplets and then 1 triplet in one beat. Play it really slowly, and then speed it up once you think you got it down.

Also, listen.
