Well, I've been into Shadows Fall ever since I saw them with Slipknot and Lamb of God one year ago.
The thing is, I've really only listened to The War Within.
What would be some good songs to download off of other albums?

I only have The War Within and I like it alot. I haven't heard much else by them.
I never could get into this guys for some reason. I love the singers hair though :p
Yeah, Brian Fair's dreds are of epic proportions.

i really, really dislike the war within, but the art of balance is awesome. so all my songs are off that album:
definitely listen to "A Fire in Babylon." That songs's pretty epic and has a nice solo. Idle Hands, Destroyer of Sense, Stepping Outside the Circle, and Welcome to the Machine (Pink Floyd cover) are rather good, as well :thumb:

I cant picture Shadows Fall doing a Floyd cover. It must sound very different from the original.
csl316
05-06-2006, 11:50 AM
they actually stay pretty close to it, but with chunky guitars and no electronics at a similar tempo. the singer doesn't growl or anything, and there's a nice mini-solo stuck in there
i was pleasantly surprised. i was blindly listening to the cd. i got to the end and remembered thinking "hmm.. this sounds familiar"

Thats cool. I'll pick up this cd next time im in Best Buy.
The Art of Balance is a badass album, its their best IMO. I don't really like their earlier stuff, and I didn't like The War Within.
Also, they actually pull off the Floyd cover really well, I must say.

Good songs:
Somber Angel

Crushing Belial
Of One Blood
The First Noble Truth
Thoughts Without Words
Stepping Outside the Circle
A Fire in Babylon
Every album is pure gold, it all depends on what style you're looking for.

The Art of Balance is a great album and I like it more than TWW. I haven't heard any others, but I would certainly recommend Balance.

I really like the older stuff, like somber eyes to the sky and Of One Blood.
Even though it isn't as polished as their newer music.
Does anyone else in here love their Welcome to the Machine cover? That's one of their songs that gets frequent play from me.

I like Somber Eyes to the Sky, Of One Blood (I think that's the title), and Art Of Balance, but Brian's clean vocals got very irritating on The War Within (still a good album, but not as good).
Hopefully the new album will be as good as the older stuff, however if Brian starts doing what he did to Shads in Overcast I will probably not buy the next album.

I purchased The War Within, and only really enjoyed in full a couple of songs :( (mainly because of the clean vocals, the riffing was still great)
But I'll be getting their next release just to see how the follow up, great band though

My favorite songs on The War Within are Inspiration on Demand, Ghost of Past Failures, and Those Who Cannot Speak.
I like the whole album, but those are my favorites.
Crysiss
05-08-2006, 01:31 PM
They really overused power chords in that album.
Ghost Of Past Failures is a great song, And those Who cannot Speak and The Light That Blinds
Other then that, they were all meh to me

Brians vocals arent showcasing his skills in that song though.

are you talking about the one that came with TWW or are you talking about the concert DVD the art of touring.
i dont like their concert DVD that much. terrible quality and every song is basically its own music video. they have different clips from different shows they played. that was a huge turn off for me and that stoped me from listening to SF for a while
Shred Danson
05-13-2006, 11:11 PM
The "funny moments" on the DVD were great, but you're right, terrible quality. I thought it was going to be an actual DVD of a live show, not just random clips of a bunch of live shows...that doesn't turn me away from the BAND though.

Dehumanizing Process DVD is probably my favorite, every time i watch that I go up a notch in my drumming skill just from watching Andols. I also have Killadelphia and the sh1tty art of touring dvd. I thought that was a funny dvd, but i was hoping they would have more music. Chimaira's new shi1t really is not good compared to impossibility of a reason, probably because they lost andols.
Anyone heard anything of the new SF album. I have heard In Effigy, I think it sounds good, even though it is nothing new.

I mistakenly thought that Shadows Fall was death metal and never really gave them a listen. bnrmetal.com has their genre as death metal. I think metal-observer was more accurate listing them as power thrash.

Aside from the fact that most of us have already heard it, SF had posted an announcement about this release some months back, saying the album would consist of b-sides from The War Within, a couple redone songs, a couple covers. And you should really be able to recognize the covers and redone tracks.
