I've been playing guitar for almost a year now and I've been teaching myself. I think I've progressed very well, but now I want to try my hand at drums. My situation is. . . (Could you make reccomendations)
1) I want a decent starter kit that doesn't cost too much
2)Is there any way to make it less loud
I'm 14 so I live with my parents but I'd really like to learn to play. Thats why I need something to make it a lot less loud.

Get a practice pad drumset. DW makes one, so does Remo I belive
Or a cheap intermediate drumset
Yamaha Rydeen
Sonor 505
Mapex Q/QR/VX
Ludwig____
And just put mesh/sound off pads on it.
Pearl Rhythem Traveler comes with Mesh pads. So you don't have to buy them seperatly.

look into electric kits, roland TD-3 and Yamaha DTexplorer are not too expensive but great quality.

Agreed. A good teacher is like money in the bank.

What's with the all of a sudden like, 20 guitarists wanting to start playing drums this week?

ego?
most guitarists think drums are stupid and easy, and they think their drummer sucks so they give it a try themselves.
simple progression of logic there ;)

it's the reverse of our thought process.
Once I played drums for about 2 years, I wanted to play a melodic instrument.
Luckily, keyboard percussion translated well, and there you go.
Melodic instruments on the other hand often want to have a go at keeping the rhythm. It's all about curiousity.

Drums are easy for everyone to play...badly.
I feel so corny now.
I was watching Oobi, and there was this number song, and it had this awesomely funky drum part to it. It reminded me of a less boing-y Stanton.

true. I've seen it happen one too many times where someone gets on someone else's kit and can play some lame beat, and they're "omg I'm good at drums" and blow $500 on a crappy drumset, and then never play them.

yeh i hate people like that i could buy a cymbal with that kind of money
Whats wrong with buying a cheap drumset? (I'm looking at sonor 3005's myself, which aren't close to cheap)
