guns are for pussies real men knife fight

I've got a lot of those too.

Just recently got a sweet Ka Bar D2 Impact.

What are the guns for, then?

Collecting, target shooting, self-defense, hobby.

i own a gun am i am a liberal and i am quite comfortable with the size of my penis explain that one

i just really honestly enjoy the activity of shooting a firearm

also i'm trained to be proficient in their use and enjoy maintaining my skills so in the event that some unlikely combat scenario occurs i won't be the guy who spent 20 years laughing at people who own firearms and then gets shot in the face

www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_politics
www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-wing_politicsDon't do that. What is called left-wing and what is called right-wing is a decision made after the fact.

There are strong left-wing objections to free trade and immigration (usually based around labour politics of unions) and there are strong objections coming from the right wing, like Pat Buchanan and paleoconservatism.

Stupid ****ing politics.

Nah. Politics is about the distribution of power. Understanding the how and whys of that is crucial and unavoidable. Plus it's interesting.

Not everything can be neatly defined as right or left, of course.

Both parties in the US have elements who go left and right and up and down on so many issues it's usually not very helpful to think of them as 'left' or 'right' except in a vague sense.

Smokey D

Smokey D
08-25-2008, 04:58 AM
Popular usage, however, suggests a much narrower domain for politics.

Well, yeah politics comes from polis meaning (city)state. But we shouldn't rely on strict etymological definitions. Clearly the underlying concern of politics is power, and hence all relationships where there is some power differential are political ones.

08-25-2008, 05:00 AM

Smokey D
08-25-2008, 05:03 AM
Nah. I exaggerate a little bit. The act of theft or rape is not (usually) a political act although there is a clear power differential. But in any case where there is a relationship of authority there is politics.

Yogert
08-25-2008, 05:09 AM
authority has power
politics is like leverage to get you up the ladder

Sure but we shouldn't rely on really vague and broad definitions either. ;)

Once again, if humans were perfect there wouldn't be a need for one to assert any sort of authority of power. That is why I said it is a neccessary evil. Neccessary evils still suck, much like the actual job of garbage man would suck but it is still neccessary. :thumb:

I disagree. Power exists in all relationships and is inevitable. Even if all people who had power or authority exercised it duly and justly you would still have competing interests and conceptions of what is right and good etc which would give rise to politics.

And the idea that all humans could be perfect is a pretty pointless question since humans can't be perfect and we have to understand how humans work as it is the case.

We wouldn't impose authority but there still would be room for politics ie distribution of resources and stuff. Just because the state isn't acting doesn't mean there isn't implicit power underlying the situation.

heck, I thought Shoot Em Up sucked balls

there is no elitism in my movie preference, but bad is just bad

and to say
now you're just being stupid
about the scene i described only furthers my point
it was about 20 mins of absolute nothing and only further diminished the quality of the film
if they would have boosted the pretty cool fight scenes, between the actual stars of the film, instead of wasting time with the absurd human plot lines with pistols and shotguns and trivial romantics, I may have enjoyed it more, or at least seen more of what most of us expected, Transformers
also hugo weaving and john turturro are pure quality

Transformers was decent given the source material. It wasn't meant to be Citizen Kane. It was about giant space robots turning into trucks.

yeah, but only about 30 mins of the movie is directed at this, the other 90% is semi-hot chicks, hackers, absurd love stories and has-been government officials spouting B-movie grade dialoge, and of course Michael Bay's overuse of the slow-mo sweaty face pass by camera trying to be edgy style of film making :)

It's pretty much a love-or-hate film when it comes down to it. If you don't get into Daniel Day Lewis' character, you won't like it. If you do, and you start gaining bits and bits of hate, you'll get hooked. Apart from that, it's a technical masterpiece (acting, cinematography).

It's something like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. I don't like the movie (yeah yeah yeah), because I don't get to feel compassion for McMurphy, as I can never see him beyond just a crook (later read the book, it's in my top 10). I've got the same problem with The Assasination of Jesse James. I couldn't actually feel that much pitty to Pitt, because I still see him as a criminal, and getting into the character is pretty much the movie.

Perhaps one needs to see a bit of themselves in Plainview to really get sucked into the movie. I felt myself being pulled into Daniels madness, and I welcomed it(much like with the Joker in TDK).

As for the final scene, I took it as this: It merely represented Daniels total lack of compassion, his evilness. He stole and cheated and never felt bad for it. He drunk himself mad with wealth and power, and became reckless ambition incarnate.

There are various allegories and religious concepts I've considered, but I think this film was about simplicity, and said exactly what it meant too.

my pit bull craps along the perimeter or our back yard and we don't have a garden so it's not a big deal

besides i would rather shovel up 12 piles of dog crap every couple of weeks than clean up a stinking fresh hot pile of dog **** every few hours inside the house

what kind of animal lets their dog crap inside their home anyway

i'm always after me own lucky charms!

but seriously when i'm getting laid i have to have sex at least 7 or 8 times a day

when i'm on my own i jerk off 4-6 times a day but my highest count is 12 times in a day

i'm thinking about checking myself into a clinic

i actually get depressed/angry/violent when i'm not having enough orgasms
