Functioning anarchism would be that much closer if people like you were willing to work towards it instead of sitting around dreaming about it and trying to find easier alternatives.
Maybe your problem lies in that only an insignificantly small part of the population think anarchy would be a good idea?
Because I don't think anybody other than you and a few others "sit around and dream about it".

vote for the one you hate less. It is impossible that anyone will agree with anyone else on 100% of things, but vote for the person who you feel will make the country better for you.
it seems like common sense to me.

if you don't vote then your opinion doesn't matter
this is how i feel anyway
i always get pissed off when i hear someone whining about current political affairs and how much they hate the current officials and w/e else and i ask them, "well who did you vote for?" and they respond with, "i didn't vote it's a waste of time"
/facepalm

it is selfish too. over the course of time billions of people have lived. and i don't have a source, but I'm willing to guess that the vast majority of them had no say in their government. we have infinitely more say than they did, and some people choose not to use it, then still complain? ingrates.
they should be sent to live in North Korea for the next president's term if you ask me.

well, really, they do have a point. The idea that an outcome will change because you voted is pretty damn naive. Ignoring that, I think that abstaining from voting sends a clear and important message to politicians that you shouldn't really belittle. My right to vote is very important to me, but I have little desire to do it purely because of how bad the available options are. Last general election I voted MRLP simply because I had labour privatising education and healthcare, and on the other hand the conservatives who would probably do the same... only faster. People shouldn't have to vote for the party they hate the least... that's just utter BS.

were you the one bitching about how you can't criticize something unless you have a better solution? you're an idiot.
No, that was me.
I do have a better solution to Obama....it's McCain. I also have a better solution to McCain, but I don't have the power to overhaul the entire U.S. political system, so I'll have to settle for McCain.
I haven't voted in the past presidential elections though, for the reasons he stated and more. I don't believe in voting for the lesser of two evils, because you're still supporting something you don't approve of and that's hypocritical. In this case, however, it is my opinion that Obama is certain disaster, therefore I am willing (albeit cautiously) to vote for McCain).

Actually no, because one of the reasons Africa is so messed up right now is Western corporations and local fatcats exploiting the poor workers all over the map (Del Monte's mango plantations, off the top of my head), while the former superpowers flog their outdated 70s weapons to murderous petty-minded fundamentalist militias that go around systematically raping populations to spread HIV.

That'd be pretty cool tbh.
Combine harvesting sends many field animals to very gruesome deaths every year btw.
You get that with my plan too, except the sewage workers mostly build grey water systems and organic composting toilets. Even as a little kid, a sewage system that depends on water and electricity to work always seemed a silly waste when you can just bury it in the ground.
Under your plan, can I hold an AR-15 in one hand a shotgun in the other and go around killing people?

Yeah but they're vertical in a coffin, innit? And how long would you keep a corpse? If my grandma dies with her husband's corpse already in her bedroom closet, do I need to keep both corpses in mine? I can see indoor space will become a big issue after a few generations.

I reckon we have the know-how and the technology nowadays to build a less water-dependent system. It's not very pretty, but I liked the Victorian idea of crapping on a bed of coals. That burns away the germs, turns the crap (along with the coal) into an adequate compost agent, and keeps your cheeks nicely warm at the same time. The only problem would be collecting it, but I think that one of the best ways to minimize a city's ecological impact is to turn every available space into a semi-agricultural garden (like they did in Cuba, and that ended up saving their lives) so if people did the work themselves that should sort itself out. An easy option could be to make a big ash skip for every street that would be poured onto the neighbourhood compost heap once a week. Sorry 'bout the long sentences, I'm trying to cut down.
Just as a point of interest, have you ever crapped in an Austrian crapper? They have these above-water shelves midway in the bowl so that you can take a look at your crap, and when you flush the water pushes it off the shelf and into a drain.

Yeah, but at even an insignificant level it would effect almost everyone, as the point at which it is thought we all share a common ancestor is only 2k generations ago, which is 50k years ago or so. So even with only slight interbreeding, the chances of it being in the vast majority of the over all gene pool at this time is pretty good.

On the other hand, pain is a prerequisite for fight-or-flight instincts, and since a plant can't take flight and in the case of the VFT it can fight in a pretty specific way that should be considered eating more than anything else, there's not really any use for feeling pain, apart from to let the plant know it's being damaged.

Nah, it worked in Star Trek, though they had to have the cheerfully ugly alien fix things and reminisce about his destroyed home society. I just don't think the idea of a long-arsed elevator shaft connected to a precariously-orbiting space station is a good idea. I think gravity might have a few things to say about that.
I'm no physicist/engineer/college graduate, but it seems to me that something that high-up is gonna catch a lot of wind. And if it's connected to something that relies on the Earth's gravity to stay in a stable position, I can see the wind pushing the shaft about, which could in turn drag the space-station too close towards the planet, and then they'll do an impression of Jack and Jill coming down the hill, but without the hill.

I read the FAQ section he answered, very interesting. I like the idea of launching vessels off the top of the lift: since it's based in the equator, as the Earth spins you just have to figure out where you want your vessel to go, and then let go of the top end at the right time to get a slinging effect from the spinning shaft. Could be awesome fun, being launched from a planetary-sized sling.

Actually wind would play a negligent role in the current design. What they plan on is using a large counterweight and put it in geosynchronous orbit around the earth, then connect the counterweight to the earth with a huge tether. The centripetal force of the earth's rotation will keep tension on the tether, allowing an elevator to go back and forth.
The only hurdle at this point is finding a counterweight (we would probably need to herd an asteroid or something because the weight will need to be massive), and a material with the tensile strength to hold the counterweight to the earth.

Actually, I think it does.
Here are a few examples of things that people—usually post-modernists or extreme feminists and other deluded fruitcakes—call 'phallic' to justify their theories:
Spears, swords and staves. They're longer than they are wide because the first two are used to inflict puncture wounds and all three are used as third-class levers, which are inherently useful for destruction. Physics does not make something represent a penis and besides axes, maces and hammers are weapons, too, but I don't see anyone calling them peens. Which is right, because they're not. Form follows function.
Tall buildings. Again a product of the cruel, ambitious patriarchy. Well it turns out that people used to construct huge buildings with really wide bases that didn't look like peens at all, until they realized this approach uses up a lot of material and takes up a lot of space. As engineering improved, it became possible to put up buildings that could be seen over a long distance using less material. Again, form follows function.
I'm really kind of sick of people who make reason coupled with technology look evil and perverse when they are the greatest hopes for our humanity and welfare. I've even heard authors—spouting off about things they know nothing about—say things like "Principia Mathematica should be called Newton's Rape Manual" (no, not making that up) and "solid dynamics are better understood than fluid dynamics because solids represent peens and fluids represent femininity" but, fortunately, every single one of them can easily be ruined with Occam's Razor.
In the latter case, dynamics of solid bodies are understood better simply because the interaction of solid bodies is much easier to understand and predict, as it takes place more or less with a few well-defined components as opposed to many infinitesimal components all affecting each other at once. Fluid dynamics is just mathematically harder to model and besides, it's not like scientists aren't trying.
But the bottom line is: don't blame everything on the Big Bad ****, it makes you look silly.

We have some pretty bad places in Texas. Nothing like parts of LA or NY though.

Houston is nice, if you don't like zoning laws.

I've been to Houston twice, and it seems like a complete disaster area. No organisation whatsoever.

I believe you; the place is a mess. I just can't believe a city that established would not have zoning laws. No wonder its a ****ing jungle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auxiliary_verb
Auxiliary verb doesn't mean it's not a verb at all and sure doesn't mean it isn't OVS, Steve.
.
The verb is to hurdle.
As in, I hurdle, I will hurdle, I shall hurdle, I'm hurdling, I hurdled and I have hurdled.
Have conjugates like a verb but the verbal phrase is 'you have hurdled', with the important bit coming at the end. If you put it in the present tense, you would have 'a high bar, you hurdle'. So the sentence was OSV.
