It's funny, actually, but depending on what happens with this truce, Hamas may prove that their methods of firing rockets randomly on border towns is effective. Let's look at the facts:

Since the beginning of the siege, Hamas's goal as a representative of the Palestinian people has been to end it.

After the Gaza Border Breakout (one day they'll make an awesome action film about that, I'm sure of it) they threatened that if Israel won't talk they'll induce a crisis. The GBB was a warning, "Look what we can do," and fact that it pushed Egypt into having to take a more active role in negotiations. Egypt is usually one of the sell-out countries like Jordan and Saudi Arabia that don't give a crap about the Palestinians. The got Sinai back in exchange for passivity, and now Syria might get the same deal with the Golan Heights.

Hamas still has Gilad Shalit as a bargaining chip, and the truce has no conditions about his release. They also demanded for the last few months that any truce with them has to be extended to the West Bank, which this will if it holds 6 months (which it probably won't, but still).

The Zikim military base that was in the rocket firing range is being dismantled. There was some controversy regarding this base as it was being used to train new recruits and a rocket fell on it and killed (or almost killed, I can't remember) some poor 18 year old kids.

The population of Sderot, the main town being "blitzed" (though I prefer "fireworked"), has dropped 75% in the last seven years.

All of these facts, along with the truce, add up to the siege being lifted. Something very good for the starving Gazan population. Now what has Fatah got the West Bank? Let's take a look:

Political division.

A collaborating police force that acts like a 3rd party militia for the IDF.

Political instability.

Speed up in construction of settlements and roadblocks/checkpoints, despite the allegedly successful Anapolis summit.

Political repression.


And who says militancy doesn't get results?

The thing is she's repeating Kindergarten next year anyway. We're sending her to private school and they don't think she's socially mature enough for 1st grade yet, and I agreed.

She was in Kindergarten a year early in the public school in which my wife teaches. She's not even supposed to be a student there but I wanted her to go there to enjoy some cultural diversity before attending private school in Scarsdale.

It's funny because she's the only white kid in her class, and the class she will be attending there are nothing but white kids. I hope she's ok with that.

Well, peer pressure, and they are influenced (sometimes negatively) by their friends.

However, I was raised forcefully racist and high school changed me in a positive way.

It all starts at home. All kids succumb to peer pressure in some way or another but I will do my best to teach my kid to know the difference between positive and negative influence. We all know that some things she'll have to learn on her own though.

So unfortunately they seem to get things wrong but it's ok because the guys who made the film do have the protestor footage and accounts so they can set the IDF straight! So when the IDF say "a single shot was fired at a gunman wearing camoflage clothing firing a pistol towards an israeli outpost" they can show them the man wearing bright orange and listen to the accounts of how the man was helping children out of a school which IDF bullets were hitting (which reminds me of a seperate incident in which a 11 year old girl was hit in the head by an israeli bullet whilst she was sat in the classroom) and they can show them the ten or so fresh bullet holes and then the IDF won't be confused anymore.
