of course it wouldnt hurt him, and it would be nice to have slack taken up by the richer, but according to your position on other threads, this is unfair treatment, i'm calling bullshit, its just unequal and hypocritical according to how you express your feelings in other threads

Not to me. I think people who make more should pay more. It makes sense. They can afford it.

And I'm not one of those people who won't talk to anyone because I'm not confident enough. I'm shy yeahm but not to the point I don't ask people out at all. I just chronically hear no as a response.

And it's not like I go around talking about FS or Blur when I first meet someone. If I'm joking with someone I know well it's one thing.

Paul I think I've found your ideal candidate:
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071225/NEWS05/712250327/1007

With snow swirling outside the New Hampshire library, it was a classic presidential primary debate scene. The candidate, in a dark suit and gold tie, answered questions about taxes and immigration.

Cameras rolled; sound bites flowed.

The candidate's reaction: "Awesome."

Meet Albert Howard of Ann Arbor, a Republican running for president. He's 41, the father of eight children under 13, a chauffeur for Checker Sedan, a former missionary and a man with strong opinions.

If elected, he would abolish the Internal Revenue Service, the FBI and all taxes. He says he believes the 9/11 planes were part of a government conspiracy.

In 1992, an angel's voice told him he would someday meet Hillary Clinton, run against her for president and she would lose.

So he decided to try it.

On Oct. 23, with a travel package he found online at Priceline.com, he flew to New Hampshire to become one of 42 so-called lesser known candidates in the nation's first presidential primary Jan. 8.

Like the others, he paid $1,000 and signed paperwork to get his name on the ballot. That won him a spot in the "Lesser Known Candidates Forum" in Manchester last week, which was broadcast live for local television and taped for C-SPAN.

He also has made the rounds of town halls and newspaper offices in Iowa, hoping people will write in his name on caucus ballots there Jan. 3. He has been interviewed by or quoted in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Time magazine, and newspapers in New Hampshire and Iowa.

His strategy is to become one of the top three vote-getters in one of the two early opportunities and sail to victory.

"This is what America is all about," he said. "Remote as it might be, it's still a possibility."

He's not on the primary ballot in Michigan, which requires candidates to have the signatures of 12,000 supporters. "Too much red tape," he said.

Like other candidates, he has a Blackberry, a Web site, Youtube.com videos, a campaign committee and a treasurer -- his wife, Ingrid. He has raised less than $5,000, he said.

A nondenominational Christian who is an abortion opponent, his platform includes bringing God and spirituality back to the nation, banishing voting machines and getting out of the United Nations.

What about that angel who spoke to him?

He did once meet Clinton, at the University of Michigan commencement ceremonies in 1997 where she spoke and he sang the national anthem. Now, he's running against her for president.

Does Howard think the angel meant he would beat Clinton, or that someone else would?

"That's just how it came to me," he said. "I don't know what it means."

;) :p :D

Less-known 'candidates'=fun times.

but but, the vid didnt even show his entire thought or speech, it was edited and ended short of fininshing a sentance

to me, he beleived that things did happen, somewhat scientifically, but there was a painter behind the canvas, even though I disagree, to me there isnt anything wrong with a person who can understand that, but also have reservations to say a god wasnt responsible, its there way of dealing with life etc.

"It's a theory. And I don't accept it."

I think that's quite definitive.

And again, it's not a question of his personal beliefs. It's that he's denying something which has mountains of scientifically verified evidence.

I don't think you can trust someone with that much political power if they are willing to publically deny something which is so well grounded. This is a man whose opinions on stem cell research, abortion, global warming, et cetera actually matter. And if he's willing to completely deny the massive majority of scientists' stance on such an issue, then no, I don't think he's capable of the job.

Probably gonna set up some huge Messianic Return ritual in 2012 and have a Bill Hicks lookalike come on stage and tell the gathered Scientological masses that they're all chumps. So you have no problem with the government forcing businesses to have their displays in French and not English?Um, that's not their policy. Their policy is that signs must be bilingual, and the French must be prominent.

Um, that's not their policy. Their policy is that signs must be bilingual, and the French must be prominent.

What do you mean prominent? The way I understood it, the French has to be dominant. And you think that's a good thing?

The rule is that the French cannot ever be smaller than the English on a sign.

So why do they need to force everyone to confirm to a linguiphobic standard?

So why do they need to force everyone to confirm to a linguiphobic standard?Stop saying linguiphobic, it's not a word.

They're trying to protect their language from the Anglophone majority. This is not a difficult concept.

Stop saying linguiphobic, it's not a word.

It is now.

They're trying to protect their language from the Anglophone majority. This is not a difficult concept.

wtf protect their language? If the people want their language protected, they'll protect it! wtf is it the government's business to intervene and force people to do so? If people care enough, then they'll 'protect' it, if not, then it doesn't warrant protecting.

If the Francophiles in Quebec want to preserve their culture, let them do it the way most others preserve their culture--without an imperious government.

I just saw some numbers for a bunch of countries the other day. I thin it was something like 8-15% said that religion plays a big role in their lives.

you're right steve

frankly without the christian influence it's a miracle they haven't committed countless genocides, gotten drunk and had sex with their daughters, and concluded the only way to save their souls is with metaphysical cannibalism

That idea of culture and 'protecting' it is pretty ridiculous.

oh so you take all that sh!t about ebonics back?

you really have to take that stuff about ebonics back now

or you'll be sent to guantanamo by the hypocrite police

Steve sounds like me now.

He's saying that if the people think it is important to protect their French, it will survive without government force. I agree.

What, are they too weak and pathetic to accomplish that on their own?

What are you talking about? I still hate ebonics just like I hate any other painful deviation (eg cockney) from standard English.

Like Steve said, if people found it important enough, they would have not needed government force to preserve it.

You Americans don't get it. You've been a monolingual culture since who knows when, and you don't know how language politics works. That's why you're dealing with the Hispanics so poorly.
Precisely
Funny coming from you, who advocates government intervention on a whole host of "moral" (i.e. religious) issues.

I'm only insulting the ones who are so insecure that they expect the government to mandate their culture.

Wait, you consider language to be a moral issue???

And, a whole lot of people are dealing quite nicely with Hispanics. It's people of the Francophiles mindset who are projecting the hostility. I don't understand how you can defend Francophiles and condemn Tancredo & co. They're the exact same sorts.

Why don't you trust people to continue their own culture??

No, by having the government mandate things, you are showing a distrust in the individual.
