My girlfriend bought me a new bass reso for my travel/gig kit for my birthday, An Ebony Ambassador. But I was looking for a Ported reso and this one is un ported. Since I cant take it back because dont want to hurt her feelings, is there a way to port it??

I hear heating up a metal pot and burning through the reso works, but I really have no experience, its just something ive heard.

put something sharp there, instead of a pencil. do it from the inside of it, so you don't screw it up... (if you do - it won't be visable - if you do it from inside, durr) ok that's about it.

trace out a cd using a pencil ~ cut out the circle using sizzors. (rounded tip would be best)
it really doesnt get much simpler.

It does thugsy. Use a stanley knife/scalpel around the cd. Jobs a good 'un

No, I have this instrument. Cos £2 off Ebay! Its same as a compass. But with blades instead of pencils. Exact sizes. It took me less than 4 mins to do my beginer set. It took 15 for my other kit because I had two and wanted to measure them perfectly.....

Not sure, but they seem to be wielded only by black guys :p

I use Holz for porting any bass drum heads. They not only have the snap on rings, but they have a cutter which can adjust to different sizes. It is really easy. I keep some on hand and sell them to my friends when someone needs them.

Like Peacedrumguy, I ported my bass reso with a Holz ring. If you don't want a ring (I suggest one though, it's good reinforcement), the other ideas here are good too!

I'd definitely go for the Holz, it looks awesome and hides the edges of the hole. Good if you cut it abit uneven.. like me
