Was wondering what you guys thought of Billy Martin from Medeski, Martin, and Wood. I really like his drumming. It is unique and simple yet it fits so perfectly with the band. If you haven't heard any MMW I suggest you check them out.

Go to www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Billy_Martin.html and check him out in some of the sound clips.

yeah, no kidding. he can reallly play. everything mmw puts out is amazing. i wouldnt call his playing simple though. he can take those latin grooves and really make them sound great.

Yeah your right about his latin grooves. I guess what I meant to say is he doesn't just play rediculous show-off stuff at blazing speeds. I really like how his drumming fits in so well with the music.

I LOVE him. His groove is great, his taste is great, his chops are great(You don't hear it much, but they are). He's a real virtuoso I think, he's stuided everything from rock to authentic latin stuff(I think he's spent plenty of time in South America among other places studying with the locals).

It's true, ...Martin it the ****.

While MMW does have such an amazing chemistry between themselves, and each of them contribute to that, I can't imagine what they would sound like with a different drummer. To a certain extent, he basically is MMW, in the same way that Led Zepelin just wouldn't be Led Zepelin w/o Bonham

These types of drummers just own the groove, and they aren't flamboyantly flailing rudiments in every direction or continually showing off how fast their doubles are. It's just pure, honest, solid playing.
