I just saw this band on TV, I think it was either Leno or Conan, but I forget. They immediately made me think of Led Zep, so I downloaded the album, and it's pretty friggin' good so far. I saw them mentioned a few times on Myspace, so I know they're decently popular. What do you guys think of them, and if you haven't heard them, at least check 'em out.

Wolfmother are a really derivative band, but I enjoy them. They bring back that classic sound, and do it in a way that I find to be more appealing than bands such as Jet or The Darkness. I can't really explain why though.
Their album was just released in the USA a couple of days ago, and they are currently on tour there, so check them out. They are a really good live act.

Wehehehe, I got tickets! One of the more intresting acts to come out of Australia.
Yeah, finally us Aussies got the jump on the Yanks. Wolfmother is great, I've been a fan for a few months now. Much better than Jet.

I'm with ThunderBass.. I don't like their sound, doesn't appeal to me at all. Some parts of their songs are ok, but I would seriously dread listening to 2-3 songs in a row after having already heard the album.

Great band in my opinion. I almost picked up the cd at our cd store just a few hours ago, but I didn't have enough money with me. I really love Mindseye and I love the keys in it.

They were described to me as a mix of psychadelic rock and indie. Which is fairly apt, I think.

They are ok, they sound like a combination of the white stripes and Sabbath to me, which is ok because i like both bands. the one thing that drives me nuts is that with such great influnces the lyrics blow. i mean zep sabbath and jack white all kickass at lyric writing, but some of wolfmothers lyrics are horible, its a real shame

I really like this band. I bought their album the other day and it's fantastic. Although, you can definitely tell which songs are more geared towards being singles, which annoys me a little. They definitely sound more like Sabbath than Zep to me as well.
I agree with CandC, in that I really feel sorry for them because of all the weight they're going to have to carry now. From what I hear they've really been hyped up by the media.

yeah i saw them at big day out in melb. Andy Stockdale was excellent. Thank God for them following Jet.
I think it's great that both the mainstream and those who are more passionate about their music both like the band. However, I think sooner or later the guys will have to disappoint one group.

Well in Australia these guys are getting extensive airplay on the radio and it is really a relife to here a band like wolfmother over your nicklebacks, fallout boys, simple plans and good charolettes. Ok they may not be the most amazing thing to hit contempory radio, but i think we can all agree they are a damn good change.

Well, IMO "Woman", "Joker & the Theif" and "Love Train" are the pretty obvious singles on the album. They seem more light and catchy and more immediately accesible to a new listener. I agree though, overall, very solid album. I'd also really like to see them live.

This band is terrible. They're sort of like Black Sabbath, but they have a couple of things Sabbath never had:
-a boring guitarist
-utterly dreadful lyrics
Plenty of bands have taken after Sabbath and Zeppelin without being so terrible at it (Soundgarden, Melvins, etc.). I mean, sure their singer is better than Ozzy, but who isn't?

They lack originality
When Woman came out as an EP before the album etc I thought they were alright but when the album was released I realised they were rehashing stuff that's been done to death

It is highly derivative music but alot of music is these days.

I'm glad i did, they were very good. Second time was at the 2006 BDO, they had hit the big time then, everyone was into them and they played on the main stage, but I think they were **** that time. I have the album. It's a good album. It's on my top 8 albums list. I like Joker and the Theif. However I think they need to do a guitar solo every now and then (I'm not feeling to few that they have on the CD). I'm listening to a song and I'm thinking "SOLO! SOLO! SOLO!" and no solo comes. At this point I get depressed and put in some country music. Country music is the music of pain.

I'd listen to Jet and The Darkness...or at least the Darkness' first album over Wolfmother anyday. The more I hear from Andrew Stockdale, the more I dislike Wolfmother. He says he doesn't listen to any Sabbath or Zeppelin. He said he plays an SG, but he doesn't use it in the studio. He just seems like a mini Axl.

I just downloaded some of their songs becuase of this thread. Amazing band.
Hehe, my friend who saw them at Big Day Out said Andrew was a bit of an arse.

Wolfmother's lead singer wishes he could even come close to sounding like Robert Plant and the rest of the band can't even hold a candle to Zeppelin's name.
As soon as I heard "Woman" I was like, "They are so obviously trying and failing to sound like Led Zeppelin."
Actually, I think it's more "They're so obviously deriving Led Zep's sound, but making good music regardless."
Besides, they're better than Jet or the Rogue Traders.

And why exactly do you dislike him? Because he doesn't use the same guitar on stage as the studio?

Which Big Day Out, and how so? I saw them at the Gold Coast and I thought they were rather good, considering they were playing to a pissed off crowd with a reduced set because the sound shorted itself out during Mudvaynes set, which Wolfmother followed.

I too would like an answer to this. I don't see and valid reason here for disliking him, or how he could be compared to Axl Rose.

Meh, I don't really like them much.

The Brisbane one, and apparently it was just his "showmanship" aura. This is hearsay, mind you, so take it with a grain of salt. My mate loves them, regardless.

They've got a pretty big sound, but I don't think they're anything special. Their sound has been done before so many times, it's nothing new. They're nothing groundbreaking, so I don't think they'll last.

Now, I am drawing from a small pool of info, but I was under the impression when I first heard WM that they were just some fans trying to bring back the music they love. As it turns out they are not very big fans of Zep/Sab so it makes me wonder why they are doing it if the don't love it. Tell me if I am wrong.
I'd say that they are, but they're trying to get away from the Zep/Sabbath clone image that people are attributing to them.

I'm going to see them in August. I probably wouldn't if they were the main attraction, but its like a festival gig, and they happen to be there, and i'm not complaining.

E-mail them and say that. I'm sure they'll just give up on making music 'coz some tard like you is ignorant and won't accept that they are a really good band.
Or you could just shut the **** up until you get recognition for being a good musician... if you are one.
Anyway, I got the album, it's really good. I saw them at a festival here last weekend.

He's not ignorant for saying Wolfmother is a lousy band. That's his opinion. You're ignorant for falling back on the same old "I'd like to see you do better!" fallacy. That's the lamest excuse of all.

I read an interview with the frontman and he said he wasn't much of a Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath fan at all. He said the music sounds the way it does because he's listened to Indie music all his life, and he wanted to do something different, meaning writing riffs.

I saw them live last night at the brisbane gig. It was my first concert and they put on one hell of a show. They even had a jam session, which is a nice relief from most other mainstream bands.

I missed that show. :(
I wasn't planning on going to it, because I'm trying to save some cash, but by yesterday afternoon I was kicking myself.

You really missed out, although the setlist was kinda short. Because they only have one album I thought they might have done some covers or something but the only extra was a B-Side and the jam.

Wow, I forgot about this thread. I listened to these guys for about a week, then got tired of them. They're real good, but not my usual tastes, just a passing interest.

I think they could be a lot better if they had a better guitarist, all he seems to do is play simple power chords...

If they had a better guitarist? Too bad hes the frontman and singer as well. And besides hes much better than just simple chords, hes quite good at lead guitar as well, he doesnt solo often but when he does its very good stuff.

I agree that they're a nothing band. And calling them a reincarnation of Zeppelin and Black Sabbath is spitting in the faces of those once-legendary-now-tired-and-old musicians. But they're entertaining to watch, especially considering that I can point out every transition point in their songs between Zep and BS.

Haha, :thumb:. It is true that they do sound a bit like them, but it apparently wasnt intentional and theyve been trying to fight that image people have imposed on them.

I've only heard 'Woman' so far, but I really like it.
I saw them on Letterman, and the energy they had and the show they put on just blew me away. :thumb:

Woman is a great song. My favorite is probably White Unicorn though.
This band is really starting to grow on me. They are quickly becoming a favorite.

My favourite would probably be Colossal or Pyramid. But the whole album is very good.
Woman isnt my favorite, even though it rocks. I think my two favorites on the album are where eagles have been and mind's eye.
