View Full Version : A Given Band's Happiest Song?

This thread is to discuss which song from a certain band's catalogue is their happiest. You can either list some from your favorite bands or name a band and challenge someone else to give their most joyous work.
Now, as I've said plenty of times before, I can't figure out what a singer is saying in most cases. If the music says "happy" then I will judge a song on that, regardless of any "hidden" meanings the lyrics give. Oh yeah, real original guys, you made a song with happy music and dark words! I don't care shut up!
The Flaming Lips: This Here Giraffe. Actually, there are a lot of contenders but this is what I think. How bout yunz?

The Unicorns - Jellybones
But then again, all their songs sound scarily happy.

I'm gonna contest (pronounced Kun-test for all you Egyptians) that and say "Cecilia".

Man, nobody is into this thread. I'll lay down some of my thoughts and you can yell at me for being wrong later...
Primus: Golden Boy
At the Drive-In: Star Slight, Give It A Name, or Pickpocket
Husker Du: Books About UFOs (Hare Krisna is just a parody of "I Want Candy" so let's just ignore that!)
The Mars Volta: N/A (So far I don't think they have a single happy song)
Minus the Bear: Fine + 2pts.
Melvins: Set Me Straight
The Replacements: Favorite Thing
Soundgarden: My Wave
Coheed and Cambria: A Favor House Atlantic (also has the highest-pitched vocals so watch out)
And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead: Baudelaire
okay let's try this thread again!

No! "The Suffering" is much more happier with the "Hey, hey!"
Rolling Stones - Happy. No one can discontest this.
Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing; its all about the bassline so fun and happy and upbeat yada yada.

Joy Division- Love Will Tear Us Apart
I'm going to have to vote for "Interzone" or even "No Love Lost" rather than that song.

Love Will Tear Us Apart is far from even Joy Division's most neutral song

In my opinion, "Maquiladora" is their happiest song, though "Pyramid Song" is one of their most hopeful songs.

If you listen to all those bands enough to tell what their happiest songs are, then you've got a high tolerance for terrible music!
