I've been getting into industrial pretty good lately. I'm going to have to check out the Kovenant and Deathstars; I haven't heard either of those before. I'm mainly into Skinny Puppy, Ministry, and KMFDM right now. I also like Nine Inch Nails, but not to the degree of those others.
Any recommendations for a beginner would be appreciated.

Is the new Ministry album already released? i think i missed the release date ... i looking forward to it, cause i heard it should be again in the tradition of "Psalm 69" which was a masterpiece :d
I don't know if Deathstars and The Kovenant are famous enough, to get something by them. When you visit the official website of Deathstars you will find 3videos and some mp3s to download (free)
Kovenant are very similar to them (imo) - but be aware that there exist a band called Kovenant with K, and a band called Covenant with C ... they are making both different music - i think (but i'm not sure) i mean Kovenant with K :p
how are KMFDM? i never heard anything by them...
ps.: i made some photos and videos on the Deathstars concert... i will upload them some day when i will have more time.

Thanks, repcak. I'll check out the Deathstars site, and attempt to find something by the right Kovenant, haha.
I like KMFDM pretty good, but that's just me. I don't know if you download music or not, but if you do, get "Juke Joint Jezebel" (probably their best-known tune) and "A Drug Against War." Several of the members were in another project called MDFMK, but I haven't heard them yet. I need to get some of their stuff.

The Covenant and Kovenant are the same band:p
They had some issues with their name being copyrighted or something and they had to change it, they're still the same band even though the music has changed quite a bit.
Hellhammer played drums on one of their earlier releases if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not big on Industrial by the wa, I just saw this thread and thought let's have a look.
some NIN is ok, I like Red Harvest too, a death metal band with lots of electronic influences.

thank you for the information.... the only album i have is "S.E.T.I" and i love it :D
edit:
"Now known as The Kovenant, they had to change their name for legal issues after the release of "Nexus Polaris" due to the name already being used by a much longer-running Swedish EBM band."
so there exist a band called Covenant who is making "Gothic" music ... EBM is a genre of gothic... electronic gothic or something like that, i'm not sure.

I thought that wasweird too, bit it says it's a Swedish band, although I don't see any mention of a swedish EBM band on M-A
Covenant and The Kovenant (of the links in my ealrier post are from Beregn (Norway).
So I still think it's a confusing matter :p
I cleared some mysteries, but brought some others too (A)
And I'm not big enough on these genres to tell you exactly what's going on, maybe some one else can clear up the other mystery.

i once wrote a special topic in english about NIN and Industrial for my matura exame; here is a part of it:
Industrial music:
Industrial music grew as an offshoot of electronic music known as musique concrete, which was made by manipulating cut sections of recording tape, and adding very early sound output from analog electronics devices. The term Industrial Music was originally coined by Monte Cazazza as the strapline for the record label Industrial Records, founded by British art-provocateur Throbbing Gristle. This original artist have very little musical connection with modern "industrial music". Although contemporary to punk rock in the mid-to-late 1970s such as the Sex Pistols, industrial music was more hard hitting and thought-provoking.
Unlike other forms of popular music, industrial music was (and still is) critical of systems of power and control, and this criticism clearly extends to the record industry. It was nothing new for bands to be and work independently from their labels, but it was very important for them. While several punk bands wanted to have a major record deal, none of the early industrial bands had much taste to get famous by lossing their independence. Industrial music and punk shared for a couple of years a strong desire for negation, a strong desire to break (musical) rules and express disgust.
The essential ideas of the industrial music are:
Organizational Autonomy:
A conscious choice to record independently. To preserve the intention of music and to take it away from the tainted and greedy major record companies who enjoyed success at others expense.
Use of Synthesizers and Anti-Music:
Using found materials and unconventional means of composition industrial music was more antagonistic to its intended audience, than being music true itself. It was "sounds without content".
Extra-Musical Elements:
Television has become a more powerful agent of control than any pop music song and therefore it was important to bring their message through this medium too and to shock people. Bad quality, colour bleeds and feedback were the results of primitive technology, but at least for industrial artists very important to express themselves.
Shock Tactics:
The final blow in the scheme for control has to be the use of hitting home what you have to say, making sure that it gets noticed. By far, this last technique is what is most often used by modern day "industrialists" and most probably the connecting puzzle piece that gave them such a distinction at all. Unfortunately, we've all witnessed death and war so often in this day and age, that we got “imune”, and this shock tactics got useless
First wave of industrial music:
The first wave of this music appeared in the late 1970s in the UK with bands like Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. Blending electronic synthesisers, guitars and early samplers, these bands created an aggressive and abrasive music fusing elements of rock with experimental electronic music. Like their punk cousins, they enjoyed the use of shock-tactics (topics ranging from serial killing to sex and censorship) including explicit lyrical content, graphic art and Fascist imagery. The label Industrial Records controversially used an image of a gas chamber as its logo. Although critics felt they were too deviant, their brand of confrontation signaled a desire for a change in the political and social system currently in place. However bleak and distressing, their music was merely a reflection of the society that surrounded them.
In the early 1980s, advances in sampling technology and the popularity of synthesised new wave music bought some industrial musicians greater exposure. As much as some new wave bands were informed by the experiments of the industrial bands, the original industrial groups also began to refine their sound by experimented with dance beats.
Industrial rock (metal):
In the 1980s the more experimental side of industrial music became subsumed into dance and rock music. In North America, bands such as Skinny Puppy and Ministry mixed shock-rock performances with electronic samples and heavy metal guitars to create a genre often referred to as "industrial rock/metal". Other notable artists in this genre enjoyed widespread mainstream success in the 1990s, including but not limited to Nine Inch Nails, White Zomby and Fear Factory.
i wrote this some 3years ago and meanwhile i know more about industrial than those 3years ago... i changed my view and position about industrial music and some things are not 100% correct. i was only 18 while writing it and the only industrial band i knew was NIN :p

I wouldn't really call Kraftwerk Industrial.
They had an influence on some industrial bands. A lot of bands put into the krautrock genre back then were big influences such as Tangerine Dream, Faust, Neu! and Can.
BTW, I added some more stuff to that list up there. Some Coil, Psychic TV, Laibach, and Ohgr.

Kraftwerk is friken freaky..... i love em... but when i think industrial i think darker more machinish sounds then some of kraftwerk's material. But Radio activity has got to be one of my all time favorite Kraftwerk songs. or maybe Music Non Stop.... good stuff.

hey, masked guitarist, how do you like the synthesizer i sent you?
Does anyone here like Samael's later work, such as Reign of Light. It's fairly industrial, and it's suprising for me to like it considering I'm not a big fan of the genre.
