It's got potential, just definetly have to fine tune those curves. And that picture makes the body look tiny.

Agreed, done well it could be quite interesting, but you need to work on the proportions of the curves. But it might be a bit late for that if you've already cut out the body... :p

I don't like the shape much to be honest, but whatever works for you.

the curves suit me well, it sits on me knee well, iver brought the horns closer into the body than on the CAD drawing.
Tryxx: the body is tiny, ive measured it so it wont be like two bass bodies stuck together, and because its swamp ash, it hardly weighs anything :)

I'd use ebony for the fretboard because it's MUCH more durable than rosewood, unless you plan to epoxy the rosewood that is.

ive already bought the necks, (some pics in here (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=459620&page=2&highlight=shacklecrow)) and i didnt have the extra money to use ebony, this bass is burning a massive hole in my pocket :P, i probably will epoxy the necks eventually.

Mmm the horns look a bit plain, the thickness doesnt vary, and looks somewhat weak in points, but for sure with some finer tuning it would be great :)

Sounds like a good idea, why the different tunings though?

scott01- ive only cut it out on a bandsaw, at the moment im sanding the edges and going to put a rounded corner on it and put the curves into the horns and body.

pitchfork- i play a fiver tenor at the moment as my main bass and am in love with the high C, and played a couple of fretless sixes but too chunky necks but i loved the low B, and my prefered neck size is four string jazz, so i thought 2 necks different tunings and fretted/fretless :smoke:

ive just routed out the necks pockets using a hand router - while practising on scrap wood, i broke the template disk :S so i did the actual ones free hand and a tidy up with a chisel and sander. Worked out a lot better than i thought. Should be doing the pickups and control cavity on monday/tuesday once ive picked up a few template disks. I'll post some more progress pics in the week.

Interesting body shape. I kinda like it.

It's a good idea altogether, and you've obviously put alot of thought into it. Fretted/fretless, and different tunings. Awesome!

Besides this bass is built for YOU, right? So if you like it, that's all that matters!

I'm curious as to how the finished product will turn out. The horns look very weak to me, so be careful!

well have not updated this in ages. So.....
Since last pics, ive routed out both neck pockets and all pickup cavities. Cut bevels (think its the right word) into the body, and rounded the edge all the way around with a router.

I'll post pics when im in school tommorow

Going to wire up the electronics tommorow and attach the necks (if the neck screws and bushings come)

So far everything is going well, no slip ups or things not fitting.

I like Inventor better then pro desktop or solidworks... but thats a random post that sprung up from seeing the cad drawing of it

also, definately has potential, the curves need a lil work, but it could be nice if routed and fine tuned good

Hideous shape IMO. Non of the curves really match up. I suspect that neck dive will be a bitch too. But, I hope you learn a buttload and enjoy your bass.

well i routed the pickup pockets freehand without a template disk, just pencil drawing onto the wood, and they are damn close to being perfect. Both necks fit, and all the pickups fit and the channels are done and work for the wiring. The bass is the right size and proportions for me, The pickups are correct distances apart, necks are parallel to the bridge/pickups..........just the usual things you have to do to make a bass i guess :smoke:

it looks better with the necks on. the horns still look a little too thin, but its nice.

very nice, i dont persoanlally like the shape too much, but thats obviosuly up to you, but very nice job making it by the looks of it.

The top horn is fine - it supports all the weight without a budge and feels safe but the bottom one is a bit meh, too thin at the start and to bulky at the curl, wouldn't trust holding it up from it i dont think.
Im wiring up the electronics tommorow after ive cleaned up/sanded the horns, so should look a bit better.

Should have some soundclips up as soon as Allparts stop being pricks about the bridges i want.
