Sorry, I HAD to make a thread.

I'm thinking a new pickup, but I want something that won't change the sound, if not improve it. I was looking at Nordstrand, and the pickups for the MM replacements are very economical. I was also looking at Bartolini, which is another option... Hmm.

Anything else? I once though of black tuners, but meh.

Brass nut, for sure.

Ting: Then why not replace with another MM, if the pickup was broken?

Your going to ruin your Ray with that kind of thinking Jorge.

You told me the sound of your 'Ray still amazes you, no? Why would you switch out the pup? Did you ever figure out the rust on the poles?

Try and get that rust off. Then take some clear nail polish and put it on the tops of the pole pieces. It'll prevent rust from forming (if you get rid of the rust that is there now)... It doesn't effect your sound, according to ErnieBall.com.

Bart MM's sound crap - nothing like 'rays.

Best bet IMHO would be to get a Nordstrand.

I think he wants to put in another MM to make it akin to a HH 'Ray.

Oh that makes sense...

I don't think I could ever bring myself into routing for the new pickup. My single humbucker stingray shall be here this month... Maybe if I really felt like I needed another pickup, I would have someone very experienced do it.

Why not just another MusicMan? Where would it go... closer to the bridge?

you could also get the rust off with steel wool and use a 3 in 1 oil on the pole pieces (VERY LITTLE AMOUNT)
