Sorry if there's a Neo Folk thread, I haven't been able to find any though.

After reading an article on the extremely obscure genre of "Neo Folk" and hearing that Ulver's Kveldssanger is basically the album the genre is based around I wanted to hear some bands. It sounds awesome.

So can anyone reccomend any songs, albums and/or bands that would be good to start off with?

Well, though they aren't fully acoustic like on Ulver's Kveldssanger, you could check out Agalloch and Empyrium. Both use electric guitars and harsh vocals sparingly, but mainly stay true to the Neo Folk genre. I can send you uploads of both bands if you'd like, just post your email.

Not Agalloch, buddy. I've got enough of them and honestly I know folk is meant to be simple but I'm really sick of hearing the same acoustic riff over and over.

Empyrium were on the Looking For Europe compilation so I guess they count, so if you were to send some songs to werny89@hotmail.com I'd be eternally greatful.

You may have a different idea of what Neo Folk is to me. It's basically... folk but really modernised (yeah I've wondered why Kveldssanger is "Neo Folk", it sounds like any old folk to me), like with ambient elements and some electronic instruments. I think you're thinking of metal with folk elements, in Agalloch's case anyway.

I've heard a song from Tenhi's latest... it's unbelievable, almost makes me cry. And apparently Coil are essential Neo Folk... I've got Stolen And Contaminated Songs and although I hear no folk in it I love it.

What I've always been looking for is... you know how there's the folk parts in Bergtatt that are really fast? Like before the piano section in the third track. I've been looking for folk like that but it's all slow! I love my folk happy!

sorry for long post

Coil? That's like industrial/industrial dance/ambient stuff. I've never heard anything really folky from them.

I guess I'm more into old american folk music with banjos and mandolinsan stuff. however I do love Ulver. Dressed in Black was incredible, so was a quick fix of melancholy.

Well, it's not happy by any means, but I sent you Empyrium's Songs Of Moors And Misty Fields.

They might not remotely resemble Ulver's album but Animal Collective are sweet as. Check out Sung Tongs or Spirit They've Gone Spirit They've Vanished

Thanks sir but I can't download things from the net on this computer, I'll try getting that album from Limewire. Thanks anyway.

Maybe I should just get the Neo Folk Compendium.. thing.
