View Full Version : I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with this 6 string.

But I just want your approval first, since you're the bass guys.

I'm a guitarist, and I need bass for my music. I can already play: I can slap, play with a pick, play fingerstyle, all that jazz. I have a fascination with 6-string basses, and after a lot of research, all things considered, I think I've settled with this.

http://schecterguitars.com/spec.asp?id=112#

For the Stiletto series, which seems to be highly regarded, this is the top of the line bass. I played a 5-string of a lower-end version, and that was amazing, so I can't imagine how good this must be.

But, this is a major purchase, so I just want to play it safe by running it by the bass forum real quick.

What do you think, should I go for it?

I'm sure the bass is great, but the look completely turns me off of it. It is so ugly in my opinion.

24th fret access seems limited and I dislike EMG Hz pups, but other than that... it seems like an allright bass and this B stock version will save you some money.

Yeah, I saw that link earlier.

I doubt I would need the 24th fret, but it looks like it'd be easy enough to reach it.

Just more of a convenience thing, with my bass where the horn begins around the 22nd... makes it a real bitch to try and it the 24th in a standard hand position. Whatever though, I don't use it much... but it's nice to know its there.

$500? Is that a good price for a 6er Stilleto? I'd have thought they'd be nearl the $1,000 mark.

The Brad

It's $500 because it's B stock. It has a cosmetic flaw so the factory chooses not to endorse it with warranties, etc.

The list on the bass is 1000 though.

Man, I may choose the buy it now option and get it right now.

It looks like sex with 6 strings.

All the reviews I've read about it say it is superb. With this week's check deposited, I can afford it. Yay!

Schecter are amazing for their prices. Of course there are going to be some lemons here and there, however, I haven't found one.

Regarding that e-bay item: I have seen a lot of items from the same seller in that same state. I would definetely reccomend you to buy them. As said before, it is only a cosmetic flaw, so it is marked as used so Schecter gets rid of the warranty, but as far as I know, this items are brand new.

If you have the money and the interest, I would definetely reccomend you to buy from that seller.

i've played one of those at guitar center and, even though they had terrible amps, it sounded awesome (even though i'd prefer it with older strings and actually knowing what each knob does). with a good 4x10 or 2x12 you can get a nice smooth sound with a flat(ish) eq, and punchy mids and some treble for a more funk/jazz/alternative sound. but of course, try one out first.

Those sound and play pretty good, I'd say go for it.

I played the Studio 5 today through a Laney R3.

Besides the crappy action, it was really nice.

Yeah, I'm not getting it till June, but I think this is the one.

I'll post pics for you guys when I get it; thanks for the help!

I own it and love it. IMO it's the best 6 string unless you feel like emptying your bank account. Plz note that it is very high end (those passive pups arent the best for that deep tone) but the elixirs (stock) make it way higher than if you played it w/ any other kind of strings. The playibility is the absolute best no matter what price imo. a new one will cost about $700.

You won't regret purchasing it.

I didn't mean to hijack this thread.

I hope it stays that price until monday morning. That's when I'll be able to buy it now.

Buying this will probably mean I'll sell my Brice. I can get $125 out of it from someone at my school no prob.

I'm excited.

I tried to get my parents to let me do it now with one of their credit cards and pay them back when the money is officially in the account, but they're telling me to sleep on it.

Oh man, I'm going to turn into JP: Going through a new bass every week or so.

They only sell for 6 or 7 hundred new, I think.

FunkMetalBass

Yeah. From what I've read, $700 - $800 is a fairly average price.

Still, it's about $200 off from the normal price, and it really is brand new.

Can't argue that.

I just looked at the Cort, and I'm not as big on the looks, and it's a little more expensive. But thanks anyway!

Funkmetalbass, don't worry about it dude, you didn't hijack it. I'm happy that you're getting that bass!

Yeah, they go for $699 new. They have one at my Guitar Center, so I'll have to try it soon.

They are very nice basses, with amazing tone. I may have bought one, had I thought their 4-string necks don't suck.

I've never played a sixer, but the Elite 5 I played was a dream.

I have a four string fretless version of that bass, and it is awesome, and I have heard great things of the six string version (fretted) so I'd say go for it. I want one anyway. :p

I have this bass and it's great.

I bought it from the ebay store that is selling the B stock. I had one chip out of the side of the fingerboard but the bass plays like a dream.

Go check the review section I believe there is a review of that same bass(may be 5 string) but close enough.

I hate the way washburn doesn't even make an effort to match woodgrains.

I really liked the Schecter Stilleto Studio 5 I played, great slap tone and nice sounding B. I'd get either that or if you want an even better bass, get a Yamaha

I can vouch for washburn six string basses as I own one. They are very nice and have a great feel to them. I own the precurser to this bass the MB-6, the only problem with it is slight neck dive and by the looks of the top horn on that one it looks as if they have fixed that problem.
