currently, im in the math of revision for GCSE's and havent gigged since october.. which in light of the awesomeness of the last show, sucks.
So basically, after all this sh*t i want to get back into gigging properly, start some new band etc etc
However, i have been offered some small festival and club gigs by the former immaculate fools guitarist dirty ray. which, would make my summer time extremely fulfilling.

But my question is, how do you guys warm up before hitting the stage, usually i try and warm up and lmber up, but it always takes me a few songs to full get into my swing.

Appreciated.

run scales, just to strech my fingers out, I really try to not think about the music before I get up there, always do a medicore song first, (or at least what you feel is your weakest song), I do this because it always helps break the ice on stage, then I'm fully prepared for my more favorite songs. I like the nervousnes, keeps you on edge.

not that weve done that many gigs. but before a gig ill usually just chill... make jokes with the guys etc like usual. have a drink. not booze... but thats not because i dont want to be drunk or anything. make sure ive eaten enough etc. and never have a practice session teh day of the gig.

i usually take a couple of songs to really get going too

On a side note to all of you, do you any of you before a gig feel extremely nervous but when you get up there you feel fine as hell? Happened to me once and i thought i wouldnt be able to play properly but it turned out swell. :)

Try and slow your breathing as much as you can and think of other things apart from playing the gig for a moment then, keep doing slow deep breaths and visualise yourself playing and doing a great job. Do this for ten minutes should really help. I've done it a couple of times and although I get funny looks for being on my own and doing what seems to be nothing it helps you have an amazing time on stage.

i MUST stretch before i go on stage or i wont be able to move the next day... i drink alot of water, sit around... keep my fingers warm and bendy...i usually keep my bass with me for the 10 minutes before i go on...

Well, try to relax for sure. To come over relaxed and laid back is the key. On my bands last gig (on my birthday party) we we're quite drunk, and played wrong here and there. But many said it was the best gig we had so far, as we moved a lot (just great stage presence), we're just happy having fun, making jokes about playing wrong etc.

So, if it helps, drink a pint or something like that. And if you feel comfortable with it, and don't get completely wasted BEFORE the gig ;)

my pre gig activities usually resemble the following scenario.

150 sit ups
150 push ups
shower.
leave for gig.
remember something i've left.
set off again.
get held up on train.
take a wrong turn.
ring the drummer.
arrive.
soundcheck.
sit about. couple of pints of cider.
talk to the other bands/organisers
buy the soundguy a beer and make sure he turns the bass up.

play REALLY loud.

i usually try an catch some of the bands that are on before to get a feel for the night, check out the competition and get into the mood, then i heckle a bit, jump around in back stage corridors, then sit somewhere i can hear the band that are on an jam to wat they are playing, play some scales, write the set list, slag our lead singer cos she is nervous, then run on stage shoutin an ready to banter ma arse off

Energy drinks and coffee for the win.

energy drinks make me sick, i found that out fast when i nearly puked on stage... that could have been real bad...

i watch what i eat, nothing greasy.. usually fruits, healthy stuff. LOADS of water.. im real active and my mouth is completey dry by the end of the first song.

i agree that being in shape is definately a plus for being on stage... but, that much before a show? i'd be too tired to do the show after that... unless it's something you do every day and are just used to it.... i lift n' stuff but not before a show, save my energy

i do them every morning so its not much different. it usually takes me an hour or so to get to the gig and then i have time after the soundcheck before i play, it just gets the body going a lot and then it has time to cool back down and then start up again. its just how i work.
