One of the biggest as a matter of fact.

I'm not a Wooten worshipper, but there are A LOT of them around here.

He is an amazing player, but I really don't care for him too much.

Hes amazingly talented but his solos bore and annoy me. I think they are too "showy" and that really isnt my thing.

To say he sucks is just stupid tho, the mans amazing.

Pay no attention to him. Every other post he's made recently has been of the format "[thread topic] sucks", with not justification or anything like that.

With any luck, when his ban is liften in a week he will be a cheerier, happier person. :)

Everyone says that there a lot of Wooten fanboys, but almost every person I see is like:

"He's undoubtably talented, but I don't really like him. Most people bum him though."

he's my favorite bass player.

His slapping is really fast and amazing for a while then, it turns into a clicking noise almost. His tapping and finger style stuff is really to listen to though. He is extremely talented and seems to be a very nice and wise person.

He seems like a sweet dude, and his playing is amazing, but I find his double thumbing too showy, and not groovy enough.. I love some of his stuff, other things not so much.
I love "U Can't Hold No Groove" and his version of "Amazing Grace".

He's great! He puts on one of the best, if not THE best, shows that I have ever been to. Good stuff :thumb:

Victor Wooten is very very talented, I really love some of his songs but would I say that I listen to him a lot.... no I wouldn't because bass only songs or almost bass only songs are actually pretty boring.

I love you Wintermute. <3

Wooten is a phenomenal player, as well as one of the coolest people in the world. He's a huge influence on many.

Most people find his Doublethumbing solos boring, however he has a ton of other material that people don't usually notice, including alot of his work with the Flecktones, as well as some beautiful solo pieces. People hear one song and immediately dub him a "wanker", but it is far from the truth.

Most people just think he has unbelievable raw talent at physically playing, but the man understands music...

I absolutely love his work with Bela Fleck, but ive never got into his solo stuff. He has amazing chops though coupled with vast amounts of music theory.

He's without a doubt one of the most talented players out there.

most of his best work isnt in his most popular pieces IMO. I downloaded a vid from limewire about doublethumbing, it's by Victor and although i didn't learn how to double-thumb, I did hear his solo performance at the end of the video, truly awesome.

On the other hand, some of his more popular pieces involve his over-the-top thumbing solos where he becomes "carried away" and ends up thrashing his bass to the point where you can't hear anything but the clanging of the strings on the frets. :(

He also does a great job collaborating with other artists. Check out Greg Howe's "Extraction" - really cool fusion. He plays on Dave Matthews' "Live in Chicago" album, too.

Found a video that was cut from his double thumbing tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dWb-aCWR8U&search=slap%20bass%20

About mid-way through he does his little clickity thing which I was talking about earlier.

dammit I must learn to double thump!

Scott01

I must add, alot of whats in that video isnt double-thumbing.

I still love how he adds in his muted "palmish" slap to the strings to keep beat.

He's amazing, can't put it fairer than that. Not only does he have an immense command of chops and melody, he can groove like no other.

victor wooten is without a doubt one of the most amazing musicians on the planet.

however, i dont like his solo stuff much too much (the actual albums). BUT his playing with the flecktones is excellent, and anyone who doesnt believe me should pick up their new cd. or any of their cds.

those vids were cool too by the way. he played sex in a pan at the end of one and it was sweet.

My guitarist has just about everything Wooten has ever done, I dig most of his fignerstyle stuff. But I hate his slap, I hate the tone, and I hate how he tries to cram so many notes in. Im not calling him a wanker, Im just saying he needs to stop.

Victor Wooten is not one to overplay. If you thik he's overplaying, you're missing the point.

I love his tone. It doesn't matter if he's playing Number 1 or his Yin Yang, they both sound deliciously different and amazing!

I also like his Alembic Series II. And he also owns Stanley Clarke's "brown bass", which was used to record the self titled album, School Days, If this Bass Could Only Talk etc etc....

the flecktones played live on tv last night. it was the first time id seen them, and i thought it was absolutely amazing, especially when wooten busted out the fretless 5er. to those who think he cant groove, pick up one of their cds.
