I thought I'd make this thread, cause last night I went to see Opeth, my first concert ever. Anyways I thought it was just completely amazing and so friggin crazy :amaze:, sure it was dangerous being right in the middle of the crowd but hey it was worth it, and mikael, what a comedian:thumb:

The first gig is always the best one. Savour it.
My first was Megadeth + Dungeon last year. Two of my favourite bands in one night FTW.

04-28-2006, 05:31 AM
My first was Dungeon with Anarion and Project Doomsday.
Pity its my only proper metal gig, they're all over aged.
Apocalyptic Raids
04-28-2006, 05:34 AM
I've been lucky since Sydney seems to get the underage gigs, though I'm pissed I couldn't go to Dismember last year.
That won't be a problem anymore though :D
My first metal concert was Machine Head in December 2004. Before that I had only seen Whitesnake.
JausmetalJ
04-28-2006, 05:41 AM
Ooh, I love Whitesnake.
Ive got JUST over a year till im legal ( :

Going to see Cryptopsy, Fack...I'm Dead and Enforce sunday week. It will be my first concert and will be horrible because they'll probably play for less than an hour.

Apocalyptic Raids
04-28-2006, 06:10 AM
If you're a gigantic Cryptopsy fan and it's your first gig I'm sure you'll love it, and it isn't unusual that they're playing less that an hour. Nile only played about 45 minutes and Behemoth a little over an hour when I saw them.
Ooh, I love Whitesnake.
Ive got JUST over a year till im legal ( :I shook all their hands
AND the bassist gave me a bottle of water and a load of plectrums.

Aaw man, Even Coverdales?
I'd love to have seen them while Vai played with them.
Did they play Now you're gone?
And Fool of your loving?
Still of the night?
Aaw man, Even Coverdales?Oh yes. They loved us (I went with three other friends).
Did they play Now you're gone?
And Fool of your loving?
Still of the night? They played all the classics. Still Of The Night was one of the last songs I think. I don't know all the songs though, 'cause I was a Whitesnake noob.

the first metal band i've seen live was Metallica 2004(or 3?) on a festival.
the first metal concert i went (not festival - this doesn't count) was last year: Black Label Society, Velvet Revolver, Black Sabbath;
two weeks after this: Nine Inch Nails (14th June 2005)
December 2005: Opeth
January 2006: Children of Bodom

The first big metal band I saw was probably Rammstein, like 4 years ago.

I actually kind of prefer going to gigs by myself, and bumping into people there. That way you can still chat to people etc during breaks, but not feel obliged to hang out with them whilst bands are playing.

Normally some metalhead mate goes with me to gigs, if not I go alone, I always end up meeting people at gigs too, so it's cool to talk to new people.

mine has to be Gigantour, since i wouldnt call APC metal...
not too bad, besides my girl making leave during the opening song of Megadeath, the fact that she got me lost, the fact that she bawled her eyes out over her mommy, or that we showed up late and missed Nevermore

hehe... yeah... i do feel lucky.. but i felt it more after they broke up..:thumb:
and we gotta chance to met them at the backstage since my aunt was one of the people who organized that show ... hehe .. i still have Timmy C's pick wich he handed to my cousin and gave to me... his the more humorous of them four. while Brad doesnt seem to be the talker, he just stares and then smiles at you.. i didnt saw Tom and zack up-close though, but still happy meeting tim and brad..
Ozzfest last year.
Since then I've been to Judas Priest/Anthrax, Opeth/Nevermore/Fireball Ministry, Opeth (Chronology), Morbid Angel/Behemoth, and will be going to G2 and Celtic Frost, and probably more this year.

I went to Alice Cooper by myself last October, it was nuts. The best show I've ever been to, hands down. Three or so hous of pure loud entertainment. Plus, I thought I was going by myself, but I met up with some people there that I knew.
Amazing show.
Might be seeing GWAR this summer, hopefully I can go. Because that would be sweet.
I've never been to any metal shows, but the first gig I ever went to of a band I really liked (as opposed to just local shows or going along to some crap show with friends or something) was Porcupine Tree. Friggin' ruled.

I've been to a lot of 80's bands' shows, and a ton of local metal shows, but the ones that kicked it for me was Ozzfest 2004 and New England Hardcore/Metal fest 2005..........I also saw Gn'r and CKYa couple years ago---shame it wasn't the original gn'r though....
Iron Maiden, December 3rd, '03. what an awesome night... shame it was FFAF supporting them.

Where in Aust do you live?
I'll just answer this by saying yes, I'm going to the under 18's Melbourne one. I live in Wodonga and have to catch a train at 4am to get there in time!
If you're a gigantic Cryptopsy fan and it's your first gig I'm sure you'll love it, and it isn't unusual that they're playing less that an hour. Nile only played about 45 minutes and Behemoth a little over an hour when I saw them.
That's very true but someone on here said that when they saw Cryptopsy they played 4 songs only. And I only paid $40 for the ticket so they're not obliged to play a show of normal length.

I've only seen them once because the first time I was gonna see them they were playing with Motorhead, but that got changed to 19+ so I couldn't go. Other than them the only bands I've seen live are all the ones from sounds of the underground. And then I saw Opeth and Devil Driver again aswell as Dark Tranquility. Basically the first decent power metal band that comes out here. i live in Washington in the US which is perhaps the worst place in the world for power metal shows. I would kill to see Blind Guardian or Iced earth though. I may have to travel a bit to get to a good show.

My dad had the bright idea to take me to a Motorhead concert when I was 7.
My first metal concert (well..festival) was Ozzfest '02 at Donington (Ozzy, System of a Down, Slayer, Mushroomhead, Cradle of Filth), before that I went to Reading on the Sunday in 2000, but the line-up that day wasn't all metal bands - Stereophonics (they were good back then), Placebo, Slipknot, Rage Against the Machine, Blink 182 (oh yeh  )

That was my first concert too... im guessing yousaw that in San Jose becuase that was the only time Godsmack opened for them...Nov 28 04?
Anyways was a good concert...i passed out RIGHT before Metallica came out and they took me to medical wing..i missed Blackened ;(
Even gayer is that i didnt drink or do any drugs..i jsut randomly just blacked out..probably from standing up without eating/drinking to long.

I don't know if you'd consider System of a Down metal, but they are alot heavier live. I don't much like there music, but there the only relitively good band to come through the part of Alberta I live in and they were my first concert last September. I'm seeing them again in June 26th. Like I said, not a great band, but they do put on a good show.

First metal experience was Download 2003, waiting in the pit for the Deftones. I knew nothing of the band known as Ministry before then, and when they came on, well, that was my metal concert induction there. Before that I was a wuss with pits, after that, I knew I was on to a good thing avoiding big pits
(wont stop me when I see SYL though from repeating history)

First metal concert. Fear Factory at Lowlands 2001. Halfway through the show the mic fell out and Burton just kept on bellowing over the crowd.

Yeah, they were pretty awesome live, especially since I was pretty close up. I just can't get into there music when I'm listening to it on my computer or whatnot.
P.S. Bounce live is ****ing amazing.

My first metal show would have to be Meshuggah and Tool in 2001. I was front row center for that and it blew me away. I've been to many more concerts since then, and that is something to say considering I live in Montana and no concerts ever come here.

And Saskatoon.
Anyway I'm really excited about will be my next metalk show because I just found out today that Unholy Alliance minus Slayer and Thine Eyes Bleed will be stopping by my town. I don't care for Lamb of God and Mastodon but I never thought I would see the day Children of Bodom came to here. I can't wait.

Sorry to disapoint you but this means you haven't seen enough live shows. Not to say Metallica isn't good, I've seen e'm twice and they rock but there are alot of bands out there that are alot better. If you have a chance (and like the band) you should try and see Opeth or some of the smaller bands (they usually have good shows because they still have something to prove) like Mastodon.

My first show was Tool/Meshuggah back in november '02. Awesome concert. Meshuggah was insane though. I was right up at the rail but had to be pulled out eventually cause i was having a difficult time breathing. Great experience nonetheless.

They aren't ditching all the Canadian dates. Just a few. All the ones on their website they're playing (obviously). I just know that there are a few shows with just LoG, CoB and Mastodon where LoG is headlining.

Basically the first decent power metal band that comes out here. i live in Washington in the US which is perhaps the worst place in the world for power metal shows. I would kill to see Blind Guardian or Iced earth though. I may have to travel a bit to get to a good show.I always thought COB and 3IOB where power metal.

oh, alright.
I'm slightly confused as to what bands are playing at mine, thanks to slayer's "I need 6 bands on tour with us attitude".
There won't be time for all 6, so is there anyway to figure out which ones are playing?

Though irrelevent to the current conversation of COB and IE tour... i saw Bodom with Chimaira (great act) and Through the Eyes of the Dead (mediocre), and Children of Bodom put on one of the greatest couple hours of live music i have ever seen (besides Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath back to back at ozzfest)
