I was thinking after looking up on bass drum reso ports, what would happen if you put a port in rhe resonant heads' of your toms? Would it make it sound any good, or would it just kill it or something?
It's interesting to think about the physics behind it, but like usual, stuff that happen in theory doesn't work in practise.
So has anyone seen anything like this?

Sounds crap. I don't even think that bass drums should be ported.

I've done it. If you're miking your drums it works wonders. For recording situations, put a small hole (2-3 inches) in the reso head, point a mic inside, and then put one on the batter side...sounds teriffic in my opinion.

^^ alot of people used to use concert toms too; doesn't make your drums sound good.
mamcdonald gives the only halfway reasonable explanation. Still, its best to have your drums be resonant.

concert toms are only suggested for live mic'ed situations.
acousticly they dont sound great, but mic'ed up (from the bottom) they are awesome :thumb: (keeps the mics out of the way and much less bleedthru too)
