Now, let me start off by saying I'm a pretty big trip hop fan. (you'll see why I say this in a second)
I had been looking for the newest flaming lips album after seeing it in Guitar One a while ago, this was weird for me because rarely are there any albums recommended in there that I would actually listen to, so I normally ignore them.
Yesterday I was out and decided Dammit, I was gonna find that album. I found it, but for 19 dollars, I declined.
Today I was out pants shopping (brown dickies, for those who must know) and I walked past sunrise records (big record chain in canada, maybe the US) and there was a huge poster in the window boasting "9.99$ albums" and the first of the 4 they pictured on the poster was the flaming lips- yoshimi battles the pink robots.
Of course, I picked it up blindly cause it was free, and my pants were cheaper than expected. And once I got home and listened to it, It's a good think I got new pants cause I think I shat these ones.
This is amazing stuff, it reminds me quite a bit of trip hopish stuff mainly because of the mix of electronica and standard pop/rock songwriting. Even the tracks people list as "filler" appeal to me quite a bit, and this is the first time in months (and about 50 CDs) where I cannot find a bad song.
Anyone else in here massively enjoy this massively amazing band? Anyone have any suggestions on what to pick up next?
