View Full Version : Womad - Rivermead
Ok so living in Reading, I just realised last year that I'm not only close to the Reading festival, but right next door to the Womad festival at Rivermead. Whilst I have always appreciated the world music, I've never found the time to listen to a great deal of it, so I was basically wondering if any of you could tell me if any of the following are any good...
Womad festival - Rivermead
United Kingdom
Anoushka Shankar
Batucada Sound Machine
Calypso All Stars
Cherifa
Dennis Rollins' Badbone & Co
Diana Hamilton
Enrique Morente
Femi Kuti
Gotan Project

John Zaizan Neptune
Los de Abajo
Marcelo D2
Mitsoura
Nanci Griffith
Salif Keita
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings
Spanish Harlem Orchestra
Toumani Diabate & Symmetric Orchestra
Trilok Gurtu

Any info on any of the artists would be great.

consider yourself lucky that you're near by, i've always wanted to go to a WOMAD, but it's never close by and hardly ever in the U.S. where i reside, however everybody on that list i'm sure is good, but i wouldn't miss the chance, WOMAD also has a website if you look around on the net most of them (the artists you listed) have their own websites and i've got a few of those artists if you want to hear what they sound like, specifically i got Gotan Project they're from Argentina, good music, i've got Anoushka Shankar and State of Bengal playing together, i've heard of Warsaw Village Band, but haven't got a chance to pick up an album, Marcelo D2 i've heard of him, haven't acquired anything of his yet, but i may have something with him in some type of collab format (i'd have to check) he's from Brazil i believe, Trilok Guru haven't had any albums by him however i've heard he's good as well, Femi Kuti is the oldest son of Fela Kuti, who was practically a "star" look up his dad Fela Kuti if you get a chance, Salif Keita is another one who i've heard is good etc etc, but it'd be well worth it to check all of them out

Not sure I'll have the money for a whole weekend, but one day would be fun.
