So since about last September, I have discovered the wonders of post rock. Personally, I can't get enough, I think it's amazing.
So far I listen to Sigur Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, and Explosions In The Sky. But there's a lot of I'd like to check out.
So....discuss at your own free will.
I love Explosion In The Sky so much, I have every single album by those guys. I think they're best released has been The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place.
Some Other Post - Rock that I like:
Red Sparowes (At The Soundless Dawn was the best album of 2005 IMO)
Mono
Isis
Pelican
We Followed Tigers

^ I haven't head of We Followed Tigers before. What are they like? I might have to give them a listen.
I dig the genre as well. Post-Rock/Metal is great not only to listen to when you can focus on what your hearing, but it also makes for excellent background music whilst studying. I've also found that walking at night really adds to the music as well, but that might just be me.

I discovered them thanks to Wizard in the R&M forums.

And you are right, Post Rock/Metal is great music for studying, especially EITS and Pelican.

We Followed Tigers are like a more technical Explosions in the Sky. I also recommend you check out A Silver Mt. Zion, if you like GY!BE.

A Silver Mt Zion are cool as well. I got into them after I downloaded a mislabled song from a p2p program. It was called GY!BE - A Sliver Mt Zion. It was a great song, but I deleted it because I had no idea what it actually was.
Pelican are a group who I've given numerous listens, but for some reason I don't enjoy them to the same extent that I enjoy other bands in the genre. Nothing really jumps out at me, from either album. I'll try them again some time.
Is anyone here a fan of Seascapes Of The Interior? I sent out their only album in the Daily Upload recently. It has my favourite Post Rock song of all time on there.

Never heard of them, do you mind sending the album to me? :)

Sent. If anyone else wants it, let me know.
I'm not surprised that you've never heard of them, as they are very little known. There was probably 4-5 Australian guys on here who had heard of them before I whored it out in the daily upload. I'm basically just whoring them again. It's good stuff though, although the middle couple of songs are a little different. One is really minimalist, the others kind of experimental Post Rock.
Thanks a bunch.
/Dowloading,
BTW, Good review on that album man, I'll comment later when I listen to it.

Ahh, you should note that it's blueyxd's review. He is the guy who introduced me to Seascapes, along with many other bands I'm a fan of at the moment. bluey is awesome.
You should however, comment the review anyway. It could do with a bump. :p
Great genre. Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, and A Silver Mt. Zion are my favorites.
I've been looking for the Yndi Halda EP, with no luck. I hear it is really great.

Brilliant genre.
Both Mogwai and Tortoise are my favorite post-rock groups. I like Tortoise because their music is so jazzy and funky while Mogwai creates darker and more haunting music.

Post rock bands I dig are: Explosions In The Sky, Godspeed You Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, and Mogwai.

Mogwai are good. But Tortoise are amazing, easily my favorite post rock. TNT, Millions Now Living Will Never Die and the self titled are all genius.
I dig some post rock once in a while, but a lot of it is excrutiatingly boring as well, ie GY!BE.

Ahhh, I am listening to Burn Girl Prom Queen right now, what a tune. Ep + 6 is a beaut.
I wanna give some props to 65daysofstatic, who are probably my fave Post-Rock group.

I dig the post rock aswell. While we're on the topic, could anyone recommend any bands that are a bit heavier than the likes of Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, etc? If there are any that is.

^ Go for 65daysofstatic, they have the electronica influence in their music too and are a bit heavier. Look for the The Fall of Math record for heaviness.

Some time ago I was addicted to EitS and Sigur Ros and the like, but eventually I lost the patience to listen to 9+ minute long songs. Can someone recommend post rock that doesn't drag on too much and isn't too minimalist? I like: Mono, Pelican, Dreamend, some Tortoise and the two mentioned above

i started with this genre a couple of months back with EitS, i took to them straight away whereas most of my friends thought it was dull
glad for this thread, got about 6/7 names to check out now cheers

I love Mogwai, they're the best of the lot for me.
I'm a Post Rock nut. I listen to it on a daily basis. This thread has been cool, I'm going to check out We Followed Tigers and Seascapes of the Interior now, because I haven't heard those yet.
It seems that not a lot of people are into the first wave of Post Rock bands; bands like Tortoise, whom I love, Bark Psychosis (and their amazing album Hex), and Slint. There's more of a jazz element to those bands, and they're really amazing.
As far as newer bands, I LOVE:
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Mogwai
Red Sparowes
Mono
Sigur Ros
Explosions in the Sky
A Silver Mt. Zion
Jaga Jazzist
Una Corda
Kalpana
Post Metal is a different question altogether. I love that stuff as well.
Also, has anyone heard the new Red Sparowes song? It's incredible. It might even be the best song they've ever done, aside from maybe track 7 on "Soundless Dawn." Check it out at their myspace, you'll be blown away.

I like Yndi Halda and Maserati.

I really enjoy post-rock, really relaxing to listen to. I usually put it on when I'm reading or doing homework, I rarely just listen to it though, because it can get kind of tiring.
The new Red Sparowes song is amazing Kage, thanks for the note.
I can listen to a song everyonce in a while, but I wouldn't want to go through an album, I need some sort of vocals in my music.
Are there any that play "harder" music?

Do Make Say Think, ftw.
Also, the album leaf is pretty great.
I'm not sure if Friends of Dean Martinez are exactly post-rock, but they're definitely one of the greatest bands ever.

You can try some Isis.

Isis and Jesu are great if you want to hear some heavier music in a similar style. Mono and Envy are alright too.

They're pretty good. I think they're related to Calexico in some way, which is always a good thing.

Yeah, the two members of Calexico were originally in FoDM. For some reason I'm not a big Calexico fan though.

Anyone here heard the band We Followed Tigers? Very good little known post rock band. Think Explosions In The Sky but much more energetic and sped up. I made a thread about them in the Rock/Metal forums, so if you'd like to hear them search for it there.
I highly suggest Mare to anyone who likes Isis/Jesu.

I listen to:
A Silver Mt Zion
Dirty Three
Do Make Say Think
Dreamend
Efterklang
Explosions in the Sky
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Jaga Jazzist
Mogwai
Mono
Mum (do they count?)
Set Fire To Flames
Sigur Ros
Slint
Talk Talk
Tortoise
Unwed Sailor
I like pretty and uplifting stuff the best. As for metal bands, I listen to Isis, Pelican, Jesu and Red Sparrowes. What are Bark Psychosis like? For some reason I never got around to them. I would kind of like some more post-rock reccomendations too.
I also make post-rock music under the name Paper Cranes (which I stole from a Mono song). If anyone wants to check it out:

This has become my favorite Genre, though I admitidly don't have much (sucks being broke.)
But, what I've got:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Do Make Say Think
Explosions in the Sky
Mogwai
Sigur Ros
And I think that's it.
My favorites would be DMST and GY!BE. I need to check out A silver mount zion too, but they're not available at my local stores. ugh.
When I first head DMST I was in a daze. Their addition of some noise elements just adds soo much.
Anyone heard any Fly Pan Am? They're next on my list.

Everyone that posted in this thread should listen to Don Caballero. It's really mathy, crazy, awsome stuff.
American Don is such an amazing album.

I really want to check them out, but I don't have the luxury of my college's p2p program...
