This movie was ****ing amazing. I guarantee you that it will halt anyone who thinks VG movies all suck, and people who think new horror movies suck. The atmosphere of it was stunning. I was suprised at some of the things that happened in the movie too, it was pretty messed up/disturbing. Overall the movie was excellent, but it was kind of complex/confusing at the end. Anyone see this yet or going to see it today?
This movie does look pretty good. I was a little disappointed when I found out that the main character was a girl instead of guy, like in the game, but when I saw that picture of Pyramid Head, I almost came.
I'm definitely going to have to go see this sometime.

Bad reviews seem to be from people who haven't seen the game/people who don't get it. If you know the basis of SH1 and SH2 you should get it and like it a lot.

Haha, I like Uwe Boll himself, but the movies are pretty bad. In that one thread were I said he was amazing, I was just getting reactions.
Anyway, there are some great gore scenes in this movie. I'm suprised they got past the ratings and whatnot. If this was PG13 it would be quite bad.

I have been waiting for this ever since somone posted that trailer some time ago (the really early sneak-preview one). I've played 3/4 of the first silent hill when I was in fourth (ish) grade... and I remember it scared me so bad I wasn't able to finish it. I have, since then, been meaning to pick it up again. I plan on stopping by the EB Games next to my movie theater and seeing if they have an old copy for like 5 dollars.
I've heard from sources that this movie sucked beyond belief. I'll still see it, since it looks like the best VG movie of a long time.

I've been wanting to see this movie for a while, but I've become quite skeptical from some movie reviews. I still want to see it though.
Uwe Boll had nothing to do with this movie, but it has his general feeling of murkiness and poor plot structure.
I stumbled upon this and thought it was pretty funny. Uwe Boll gets bashed by critics even when he doesn't make a movie.

this post may contain spoilers, and traces of nut
I saw this movie today and personally i really enjoyed it but yet i could see why some people might not like this film. Because i played and loved the silent hill games through most of the movie i was smiling with geeky satisfaction at how well they made this movie based on the games, seeing places in the film that i remember from the game was great, they even sometimes copied the camera angles from the game. But i could also see the problems with this movie that a non gamer may have, for instance they concentrate a little too much on the storyline(i know that sounds stupid) and maybe not enough on the monsters and creatures of silent hill, some people may find the ending to be a bit confusing, and i think non gamer and gamer alike will find sean bean's acting to be a bit sh*t.Yet if your the sort of person who is easy going enough to get past these little annoyances then you will absolutely love this movie as i have:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
imo 9/10

I think it's because of the fact that it wasn't really explained that much, and critics seem to aim for wide accepting audience movies. The rape sure didn't help though, but I thought it made it better.

So I saw this last night.
I thought the first half was very well done. It was almost exactly like the first two games, kind of combined into one. Then they added that story line that was relevant to the games whatsoever. Then it kind of got lame. The brutal gore scene at the end kind of saved it.
EDIT: I don't mean I hated it. I'd give it an 8/10. I just thought the story line was kind of stupid. They should have stuck to the survival horror action.
The thing that crawled out of the stahl freaked me out so much. That might have been the most disturbing thing I have ever seen :D

Spoiler. (I thought it was lame though how whenever they were trapped (for example, when Pyramid Head was cutting through the door with his sword), the darkness would go away and they were fine. It would have been better if they actually had somewhere to go and weren't trapped. That would have been more realistic.)

There's also a making of video somewhere with the actor without the helmet on. He had huge platform boots on under his skin apron though apparently, and either way he looked exactly as I would've imagined from playing SH2.
Anyway, I saw the movie today and I liked it. I don't see how people can get confused, maybe the whole thing about the monsters representing Alessa's anger could confuse people but I thought that was explained that well enough by the Janitor. I'd have preferred it to stick closer to the game's storyline though, with the whole Alessa and Cheryl sharing the same soul thing, instead of the crazy witch-burning cult, and also making more out of Lisa too, although that probably wouldn't work with a woman as the main character.
The only other thing I didn't like was that the soundtrack was mostly existing songs from the games. Akira Yamaoka is one of my favourite musicians so I was hoping for something new, but what they did use were all re-recorded and some of my favourite songs from the games anyway.

The movie was too much like a video game. The woman got a clue, went to the school. She finds another clue, goes to the hotel. There wasn't any real development throughout until the end when you get the story; not that it makes it any better. I wasn't really impressed with it, though Pyramid Head was pretty freaking cool.
For someone who's played the game: why are the mom and daughter still in a separate world from the husband at the end? I haven't played the games and wondered if that was explained better. I'm still not too sure about the new world seemingly coming out of nowhere when the sirens sound.

I saw it last night. Very cool film and the visuals are amazing. I've only played SH2 and part of the first one, but I could recognise a lot of nods to the games. I loved that they lifted the scene in the alleyway near the beginning straight from the first game, including camera angles and everything, and Pyramid Head couldn't have been better (would have liked 1 or 2 more scenes with him in though)
One thing I really didn't like was the whole Sean Bean side-plot. I know they added his scenes at the last minute but they really don't gel well with the film. Just when you're really getting into the atmosphere of Silent Hill it cuts to one of his scenes in the real world and completely disrupts the flow.
Still, it's clearly the best video game - movie adaptation we've seen yet. I hope Gans does a trilogy, and uses the story from SH2 next.

Here is my theory.
They did not die. They are still in the alternate world, that is why the phone call had that static noise. This is just a guess, I might be just pulling it out of my ***, but I think there is going to be a sequel with that dude going back to Silent Hill and searching for his wife and daughter and getting raped by Pyramid Head.
Oh wait, isnt that what happened in SH2? James went to Silent Hill in search of his dead wife? so if she did die, then there is got to be another sequel.
Lord of Sword
04-23-2006, 08:33 AM
The only difference, which is actually extremely crucial to the whole plot of SH2, is that James killed Mary, whereas Rose has just gone missing in the town, as far as Chris knows. There could be a sequel based on what happens at the end of the movie (I also think they're just trapped in the foggy realm, as opposed to being dead), but I'd prefer a movie based on SH2, being completely separate from the first movie.

Yeah thats what anyone whos played the games would want but you know that if they were to do that it would be slated by reviewers and non-gamers cos it leaves the end unanswered and dosent continue.
That movie rocked so much. It was so great cos i went with my gf and at some parts she got mad scared and was all snuggly and stuff while I was sitting there with a big nerdy grin on my face cos i recognised it from the game.
Im not sure if i really get it cos i never played the first game. Like I think I get the story and all but Im a bit confused about some things. I really loved that movie though.

I dont like movies that make you think unless they tell you later in the story and SH refussed to do so. I came into this Forum to fully understand the story and no one in here seems to know what was going on either. Is she dead at the end or is she trapped in that world? After i clearly know what was going on I might look back and realize that this was actually a decent film.

After thinking about it for a few days, this movie just above decent. I mean, it was sposed to be a horror film, obviously. But it wasn't scary. It didn't have a "feeling" of eeriness about it. There was nothing "freaky" except for the fact that it was mostly a dream, of sorts. Not really, but the other word escapes me atm.
No, it was interesting, sure. But, the plot was pretty bare, and the acting was horrid, as I've mentioned before. Alot of the action was just there to-to be there. Like Pyramid Head-I'm sure he had a huge role in the game, but in the movie? Nothing-at least I didn't catch any real significance for his being.
A boss in a movie is useless.
If you were a fan of the game, sure-I suspect this movie is about as close to the game as you'll get. But, I wanted more. More horror. More of a desperate, hopeless feeling, that she's stuck in this town-this vision of hell of sorts- and she can't get out. She can't find her daughter.

Maybe she had to make sure she could stand up to the uglies before standing up to the cult?

I also watched this movie as well last night. I must say, I was incredibly pleased with it. They did a great job adapting it to the big screen. The movie was almost as creepy as the first game, definitely gory enough.
For once, the director did a good job appeasing the fans of the game, while hopefully not completely confusing the audience.
I think my favorite thing about the movie is the music they used in the movie, stayed very true to the Silent Hill theme. I'm probably going to go watch this movie again.

This movie pissed me off. The beggining is like a minute and a half long and there they are at silent hill. Then theres an hour long goose chase of "a drawing! oh! another one! another one! another one!" that leads through a bunch of different buildings with no real significance to the plot except that they STILL cant find her and then the religious lady just tells her where to go (to the back of the building with the nurses) and when she finally gets to her daughter she tries to sum up the whole story with some confusing 5 minute speech/montage......this movie sucked. the end was ridiculous. and the cop was a bad actor.

I kind of thought the same thing at first, but Alessa wanted Rose to come to Silent Hill so she could help her get revenge on Christabella. Since Sharon was the good left in Alessa, she was still part of her and helped lead Rose to Alessa with the pictures.
So I guess it seems pretty linear, but when it's explained, it makes sense.

And btw, does anyone know how you play the Maria chapter in SH2? I've got the directors cut with the making of dvd so it is in my version of the game, but I can't find how to play it. There's nothing at the main menu and nothing before or after you complete the main game either.

see the thing is when they released silent hill2 they released a normal version and a "directors cut" (the one i have) which just had a making of dvd and no extra maria part BUT they later released silent hill2 on xbox and called it silent hill 2:restless dreams and that was the first version to have the maria chapter untill they later re released a new silent hill 2 directors cut which did feature the chapter and now a few weeks ago they have re re released it in a pack of the last 3 silent hill games.
so my question is do you have the new directors cut version or the old directors cut? i think the only way to tell is the front cover and box it comes in. heres a link to decipher which one you have

I've got this one:
http://www.silenceisbroken.com/silenthill2/versions_pal_platinum.jpg
bought pre-owned sometime last year. It's got the making of DVD and says on the back that it includes the Maria scenario on the back. Watching a speed-demo of it from the same site I linked those videos from, there should be an option to choose between the normal game and Maria's game once you pick 'new game', but all I get is a choice of action and puzzle difficulty, even in next fear mode.
I was thinking of getting the SH Collection though, since I never finished SH4 on PC and still haven't found a copy of SH3 anywhere, so maybe it'll work in that.

I was also reading through a walkthrough and I guess you go to a hospital towards the end of the game, and Alessa is involved in this one, which is kind of cool. Maybe the movie will make more sense when I finish the game. (Even though I'm pretty sure I know exactly what happened in the movie.)

So, acting sucked. Boring beyond belief. Dialogue among the worst I've heard. Ending retarted. Long narration explaining things that should be known. Not scary. Not exciting. No tension. Dragged out. I think that about covers it.

^ yea
I liked the movie too, but I really think if you play the games, then you will enjoy the movie more. It's kinda like reminiscing about the games, and that what I really liked about the movie.

There was an interview somewhere with Akira Yamaoka, who said he and Gans agreed on including Pyramid Head in the movie. He's supposed to be one of the town's executioners from the civil war, he just happened to be the one James 'chose' to represent his sins. Something like that anyway, he just said PH wasn't supposed to be unique to James. In the movie I assume he just exists to punish/execute those Alessa hates.

Also in SH2 you find that newspaper clipping about Walter Sullivan were he's talking about the red devil. I think that's refers to PH, also you find the painting of him.

Uhhh
I bought Silent Hill 2 PC, and it's not letting me use the gamepad controller=/
I've got no clue, everything is set up in the controller options, but it's defaulting to keyboard and I don't see any sort of option to change it to default to gamepad.
:upset:
I saw the movie.
/BORING
Probably because my friends wouldn't stop talking, and the fact that I don't play the games. Nonetheless, boring.
