I recently realized that I am in need of a better rig. Recently, i've been spending money on basses when I realized that i really need more power and tone for playing. Right now, i'm considering this plan:

Sell Ampeg 8x10 (i love it, but it's just huge) for ~$700
buy used Ampeg 410HLF cab (local classifieds) ~$300 (probably less, he's willing to negotiate)
*unsure of order for the next two*
buy used Ampeg SVT-3Pro (local classifieds again) for ~$600 (once again, negotiable)
Sell my other crap, most of which, i've been trying to sell for months which consists of: Ampeg Portabass 2x10 cab, Ampeg BA-115AV combo amp, Traynor YBA200 Bassmaster amp, and a Crate BXH-220.

this is an attractive deal for me, since i love ampeg tone, and the prices seem right. however, with the Ampeg SVT410HLF i'd be unable to use another cab, since it is a 4ohm cab and the SVT-3Pro doesn't handle anything less than 4 ohms. With this cab, would i even need another 4x10 or 1x15 cab to get a decent variety of tones and power/loudness/volume?

i think i seen somethin around on the internet of a way to bridge 2 amps in a way to get the same ohms that each posses... ie 2 cabs, 4 ohms each, run into this hub( i have to see if i can find it) and then into the head, and 4 ohms is fed into each cab....

i have to see if that hub would actually work and were i found it. When i do i'll post a link

It wouldnt work. You cant make impedence dissappear like that.

I think.

its series-parallel wiring....

i'm still tryin to figure out the schematic for the hub to do that tho, still looking for the link too

Seriously, does it ALL have to be Ampeg? The head I understand, but just look for the most transparent-sounding cabs you can find, so the tone comes from the head, and you'd save a ton. Ampeg isn't cheap.

Isn't the Sansamp made to replicate an SVT? You could get that and add a power-amp, to save some money, if not.

:upset:.... i cant find that schem anymore.... but i know it'll work, it works off the basses of series-parallel wiring somehow tho. not sure on what that is, google it, i dont feel like explaining

123. Or get the Ampeg SVP (the ampeg pre version of the svt) and a cheaper poweramp

no, it doesn't all need to be ampeg, but that's what i can get used. Any new stuff is gonna cost more.... more cost = bad (in my case).

You could just get the stuff I mentioned used.

I see tons of Sansamp for sale in Talkbass and all. Besides, even if you get it new, you'd stil lsabe money, maybe.

Not entirely sure what you're trying to say, but the idea of feeding 4 ohms into a cab is basically gibberish.

yeah, i don't get this... i googled it, but all i found were series/parrallel diagrams for wiring speakers... nothing about a "hub"....

The wireing of two 4 ohm cabs together and still having them at 4 ohms is impossable. The only way to have two 4 ohm cabs, run them together through a 4 ohm head and still have them running at 4 ohms if to run each through a different channal. Now maybe if you could make a channal splitter you could do it.

eh, sounds like too much work. I guess that the SVT410HLF with the SVT3-Pro would probably be fine, as all the reviews i've read from people that used that setup had plenty of power and volume.
