OK guys i own a Schecter Stiletto Elite 4 with active pup but i need a back up bass, something around or under £300. I've played a low end Jazz that was nice but i would like other ideas. I play mostly rock and metal, my bands thrashy and i would prefer 4 strings and for it NOT to be active.

cheers folks

Do you mean backup as in, "I won't touch it unless my other one get's a problem" or "I'll use it a lot but not as much"

Peavey's are a real safe bet. See if you can pick up a T-40, or an older Fury.

get a used MIM.

or save and buy a CIJ, much much nicer than MIM.
Otherwise try the epiphone thunderbird or a warwick rockbass.

myself i have a fretted and a fretless. both are interchangeable, and they back each other up. but are both equaly useful individualy. thats what i suggest

yeah, and a backup bass should be somewhat similar to your main bass, so if your main bass shits out on stage and you need your backup, there isn't a drastic tone change no? If i were you, i wouldn't rule out active preamps for your next bass, you might end up wanting one after all.

Just get push/pull active/passive pre-amp, it makes live work so much easier, cos if you're batteries die on stage, just change to passive

Or am I wrong :)

An OLP Stingray seems a good bet, I've played a lot of different styles on mine and I thought it sounded great. I got mine for £ 170

Peavey definitely. Peavey makes great basses. I have a Peavey Millennium and an Ibanez Soundgear. I play them both equally when I jam/gig.
