Basically, I want to go pre/power rather than head, but over here, the cheapest power amp I can find is £665, so I turned to Ebay and found this

It isn't a bass specific power amp as far as I'm aware, but if I run a bass pre amp into it, will it fry it?

Well, a bass head is basically a power amp with a built in bass preamp. Power amps are power amps. Some are better than others, but they serve the same purpose.

BTW, I think if you're going the power/pre route, more wattage would be a better way to go. Try 500+ watts.

Yeah, tbh I wasn't looking at that one specifically, just an example.

So power amp are power amps?

Yes, they just amplify the sound. The preamp shapes your tone, and your speakers spit it out. The only two things that are specific to bass would be the preamp and the cabs.

just to concur, any power amp that has compatible outputs to the cab you want to use and compatible inputs to the preamp you want to use will work just fine.
