Hey guys! I've been hard at work with school, and my final project for my audio recording class is to make a professionally mixed and mastered song. So here's what we have, it's close to the final mix but we still have a bit of tweaking to do.

And here's me during the recording process:

Very Good.

The temp seemed off and on but I don't know if that was meant to be done, just by the structure of the song.

But everything was great apart from that! Well done.

Lol I guess its meant to be.

So Well done ;)

Good job, that looks like a really fun class. I'm jealous.

The snare seemed a little far away in the mix while the crashes were a little too close. The entire kit as a whole sounded decent, just kind of flat. Did an overall good job though.

But I don't really like the singer's voice. It seems a bit like Kurt K but not quite. I can't explain.

You and I, we have the same brains.

Yeah, some of the crashes seemed just a dot off. Nothing to serious. I liked it though. <3

That song is very much like nirvana and offspring mixed, good work man apart from near the end i didn't really like but usually i'm not one for that kind of music anyway, in other words you did good.
Are you look at replacing that zxt at all or is it purely there for the sound?

Thanks for the feedback guys! Yes, the tempo is kinda off since I decided to do it without a click track. (Bad idea!) I'll work some more on getting the crashes a little further back in the mix, because I also thought they were a little too loud.

@Chippy, it's a college :p

@pitchfork, the ZXT I'm looking to replace this summer, I hate it, but not quite as much as the B8. The 17" A custom projection I was borrowing from a friend.

ah, what college are you at? and what classes you taking? major?

just listening to it (and winamp simultaneously) - the overall volume could be up a bit more. Also, you need some more highs on that snare, and maybe your kick - it sounds a bit flat. did you have room mics?

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I'll post up the final mix when we're done with it.

The college I'm at is called Cogswell Polytech in Sunnyvale, CA

My major is DAA (Digital Art and Animation)

The classes I'm taking this semester are:
MA 115 (Basic math) (bleh)
Figure drawing
Photoshop 2
Web design
Audio Recording - what this song is for

I've also taken Desktop Audio Production which was basically MIDI

Sounded good man. I agree with the other people in the the kick and snare are a bit flat. Also the cymbals are a bit to loud, but the playing was nice man.

Thank you! My friend is working as we speak to add some more to the kick and snare, and we already lowered the cymbals in the mix.

I forgot to say what mics I used, basically I used a dynamic for the snare, one for the high toms and one for the low toms. I used an AKG d112 I think for the bass and two condensers for overheads. So, to answer your question Chippy, there was no dedicated room mic.

ah... next time try using some large-diaphragm condensors spaced evenly in the room, they put all that "life" your recording is missing back in.

Thanks for the tip! My band is hopefully recording our first demo album this summer so I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Yeah, same here, the snare and bass drum should be kicked up, - a bit flat.

But it's still good. I've done exactly the same at my mates college, that's what he's been asked to do so it should be finished by the summer, and hopefully I will post it up.

Ok, here's our final mix. I know it's not perfect, but it's what we got.
