View Full Version : Your second kit
Drum Monkey

After seeing numerous pictures of We_Love_Lime's kit, small and fun, I got some inspiration. This was long ago. I've decided now to make a thread of it
If I were to have a second kit (would not happen, seeing as I am currently working on making the best of my first, although fun to think about) what would it be? There are some here (DBJ, TTTSNB, others) who already have one, although for those of you who don't, it's fun to think about.
I'd want a small kit, a 4 piece which I would convert to a 3 piece sometimes. It would most likely be a Pearl Rhythm Traveler. A small and compact kit that I could have fun on.
http://i3.tinypic.com/vrg586.jpg
I would use four of the five drums:
8x20" bass
5x13" snare
5x10" tom
5x14" tom
I would give back the bass drum it's purity by making it a virgin and have the 10" tom mounted elsewhere. I would of course refinish the whole kit. For cymbals, I'd have:
12" trash hats (2 splashes)
14" crash
18" crash/ride
This would be a fun kit to mess around on and have as a second kit. Also, all of the refinishing and changes I would make would turn this into a fun project.
So if you were to have a second kit (or third, or fourth) to mess around and have fun on, what would it be?

At the expence of sounding like a noob, what does a 'virgin bass drum' mean. I've heard it before just never knew. '
To add to the thread. I'd probably get the Gretsch Catalina Club kit. Or maybe the same consept with the rhythm travler, but i'd add a little bit of pecussion such as timbales. I'd also want a bigger bass drum. Not diamater but depth.

I think it means no toms attatched to it.

And a stave kit too.

I'd have a 4 piece "jazz" kit. 16x18 bass, 10 and 14 toms and a 13" snare, finished in some sort of exotic vener. For cymbals I'd have a 22" K constantinople(sp) ride, some Bosphorus/Turkish crashes and K custom dark hats.

Well I have two kits at the minute. But my beginers one is what I'm refinishing. I plan on keeping that at my mates place when we get the "Band Room" built.
I just need cymbals. I think I'll sort my kit out with my own. And give him my ZXTs

their Yamaha stage custom advantages, in marina green.
i really love green kits. the point of getting this was to use for gigging, as my rockstar custom kit is just too huge to move anywhere.

Yes but the inlay is in the center of the drum, which is covered by the lugs on the Rhythm Traveler because their depth is only 5". Would have to see if it looks good before you permanently give it an inlay. Although, if you don't like inlays, you won't like it :p

I like it... Think it looks classy.
Also, I'm not too worried whether I can get my hands on that particular Tama kit or not because I'd only duplicate the finish, if I had plans to actually buy a second kit, which I don't :p
It's actually a Starclassic Bubigna set with a finish called White Pearl with Diamond Inlay.

Well my current kit is my second, mapex m birch - rock sizes in natural gloss.
I'm currently in love with it but i suppose if i was to get another kit it would be a vintage premier with vinage avedis cymbals (14" hats, 16" and 18" crashes and 20" ride) and then a fourth:
Mapex orion
22x16 bass (main, double iron cobra pedal)
16x18 bass (aux bass, axis A longboard single)
10,12,14,16 and 18 inch toms
13x3.5 brass piccolo aux snare
14x6.5 cherrywood snare
Can't decide on cymbals
5th would be a premier pictures of lily kit, how sexy that thing is.

I'd have my Paragon as a second kit and make myself a stave kit, probably Oak 10", 12" Rack Toms 14" and 16" Floor toms with a nice 22"x16 or 18" main bass and then a little 18"x18" aswell. My current snare along with a 15"x6" or something stupid like that bubinga and an 8"x5.5" Maple or acrylic. Probably also some Octos and Rotos, Cymbals would be AAX: fusion hats, Stage ride, couple Plosion Crashes (or Vaults) treme chinese x 2 mini chinese and some aux hats, maybe 2 large splashes or something. Pedal would be a single Elim With Red cam (strap) and th hat stand would be an elim too.

The Premier was the second kit I bought. The first was an Ashton (Australian) TPF520 (I think), also in blue. It was just normal blue though, not a cool abalony pearly design thing like my Prems.
The practice pad kit I still have to order. I'm getting the DW practice kit, because it makes the most sense to me. Actually I could order it right now..
EDIT: Here's the kit I bought first. This is just a website example though, and mine is blue. I still have the kit in Australia, and sooner or later it will be shipped over here because we sold our house in Australia.
