Why do people always get discouraged by these videos? They're so pointless. I mean, the kid's good, but he'll probably never value what he has and what he does.

it's that Mike Portnoy plagiarizing kid, whose father whored him around the internet. I think we've had a thread about him like over a year ago. he's just one of those speed kids with mediocre control and even less potential to groove.

that kids actually 15 in that video. theres another one out of him when he was 16.

He's a member on the mikeportnoy forums. I like read up on him, his dad posts his videos on the net and films him and stuff, hes like one of those parents that pushes his kids big time.

The kid is 10 for crying out loud.

People on this board can be so abrasive. You want a non famous 10 year old kid on the internet who has more chops then alot of people here to also have alot of groove(and he does some grooves that sounded alright). That kids time was also very good which noone said anything about.

drumbum562
04-18-2006, 08:24 AM
I agree with Focker, I mean how many of us can say that we were doing that at age 10, the point is the kid has skills and potential to be great

trysthedrummer
04-18-2006, 11:52 AM
Yeah, who cares about the groove. He's well young and look what he can do.

I'm depressed. But this makes me try harder anyway! All those kids have parents who push them like that. If we would have started very early on in life we would be awesome except we haven't so were just going to have to live with it. :(

Jezen

He's not 10, he's 15 (in that video). Don't be disheartened, as he is pretty crap and he actually got worse too.

God I'm so sick of some of the people on here. They just cant accept that some people are ****ing good at drums. Its always ''Guys, better call the groove bregade, we have an absence of groove in sector 3!!!'' or ''I bet he cant read music'' or '' yeah well i bet he cant paradiddle for ****" how do we know? We dont, thats how. quit making excuses and accept that the kid is good. Nobody can ever be happy for anyone around here. the guys 15 for gods sake.

that my friend is stick control with the ability to be able to drop notes, and very good intonation :thumb:

he slurs alot of his playing, very Danny Carey of him
(makes it difficult to figure out what hes actually playing)

he's pretty good, but there is more to drumming then just being good. (like songwriting!)

I see why you would want to make excuses for the 12 yr old Royter vid, but this kid just plain and simple isn't that good. Have you seen his latest video with his new yellow kit? He actually got worse.
Nobody that is interested in drumming gets worse after a year. His dad bought 3 video cameras and a new drumkit, some new cymbals, and some new mics just to whore the kids ability (or lack thereof).

It would be funny if the father stopped pushing.

Hey at one point he plays almost exactly like the intro to '6:00' by Dream Theater! That made me smile.

You guys, some of you are just sick. This kid is pretty damn good, and if he progresses like this he will be amazing at some point.

'I bet he can't *insert random skill here*'

Come on! That's just too weak. Be happy for the kid!

If you want to be satisfied, I have a motion that will stroke all you egos out there, that you can use without bashing people who have talent:

'Everyone can get there, with practice. Talent gets you there faster.'

I still think some of us are better drummers than others will ever be, but it's about your fun exprience with the instrument.

He's pretty good in this video, which probably means he's good overall. Quit making up excuses and scenarios. Go practice if you're spiteful!:thumb:

Unfortunately, playing exactly what another drummer plays doesn't make you good. When he can create a part as memorable as the one in 6:00, he'll deserve more credit.

And also, it's already been stated that he basically hasn't progressed at all. If you get so full of yourself to the point that you don't improve, I cannot respect you as a drummer.

I dunno what is wrong with the video but I think the kid has like no feel. He goes from one rythm to the other without any transition. It's like listening to old people talk, it's so incoherent.
