Okay, pretty soon, i'm gonna be chaning my heads, and i wanted you guys to have a blaze at my options, and dictate wheather they are any good, and if i should choose different heads. My main genre is melodic metal, so basically, powermetal. I play alot of blind guardian, children of bodom, iron maiden and metallica. Thats what i play alot of, i do play jazz and samba when i can remember it...

Anyway, here are my options...
Evans EMAD clear 22" bass drum batter skin - £38.56
Evans Genera Dry 14" Snare drum batter skin - £15.97
Evans EC2 Edge Control clear 12" Tom batter skin - £15.43
Evans EC2 Edge Control clear 13" Tom batter skin - £15.97
Evans EC2 Edge Control clear 16" Tom batter skin - £17.63
Evans Glass 500 Snare Side 14" Snare resonance skin - £11.02

Do they sound good for my type of music, and in general. I don't want to order them, and find out they arn't what i was looking for. Any useful suggestions are welcome, any stupid comments and arguments are not

Sounds just about right, but im no master with head choices...

Im sure you can make your life easier and buy single ply heads and tune them appropriately, but then i'd be a hypocrite :p

The tom and bass heads sound right to me but ive never heard either of those snare heads...

hope that helped :thumb:

Ive tested the EC2's extensively. The EC'2 are basically G2's for noobs. Its really easy to pull great sounds out of them , but nothing you cant do with a G2 and some tuning. You can get more sounds and better sounds out of a G2 to be honest. EC2's are basically quick fix heads. They are better than Pinstripes cause they actually seem dampened as much as 2ply heads not as extreme as PINs also they have slightly better attack than G2's and the big thing is they have limitations on the tuning that a G2 doesnt.

That being said Single Ply Heads have the greatest tuning range and the most versatility , you can get almost any sound out of a single ply.

Forget the Genera Dry.......its a tone killer , and the hazy 500 will completly destroy ghost notes

I'd go with Coated G2s instead of EC2s. I have the EC2s right now, and they are good sounding heads. But, I'd like the broader tuning range of G2s for different sounds. Everything else sound good.

Might want a Hydraulic snare batter though...

>_> Just kidding.

go with coated g2s, and get thinner snare heads.

Those are terrible heads, except for the EMAD.

From what I heard the glass heads are to heavy or somthing, but ehh, I'd say those should be good, and if they arn't what you are looking for, unless you are in a band, I'm sure you could live with them til they got out of tune, aka old.

Forget the Genera Dry.......its a tone killer , and the hazy 500 will completly destroy ghost notesIf the Hazy 500 is anything like the Emp, well then you lie. You just need to be able to tune and adjust the snare accordingly. For the snare batter go for a Remo Coated CS or an Evans Powercenter. They are pretty much the same with little differnce but you get the idea. I'd stick with the Hazy 500, or if you want you could go for a Haxy 300.

Thanks guys. I will probably consider coated G2's now instead of EC2's.
For snare, i'll probably get a hazy 200, and the HD.

Definitely don't get the HD. It's garbage. If you need a heavy duty head get the ST or ST dry instead. Maybe it's just me but I've had better luck with the ST than with HD. The HD is just too dead sounding.

Power centre reverse over hazy 300. Its what i use.

Snare head seems to be the problem.... I'll ask what the best one to get is at the shop when i go next.

They'll advise something crap. Shops always do.

Point, they kept advising people to get the big dog double bass pedals... But i know all 3 of the guys on the drum floor will probably tell me whats best.

Go with a Remo Coated CS Black Dot on the snare batter, Ambassador snare side, Coated Ambassadors on tom batters, Clear Ambassadors on tom resos, PS3 Clear over Ebony Amb for kick drum.

I'm gonna go with Evans, as no where sells Remo here, and those who do, have hardley any choice. Lots of places sell evans though. Also, i want to help local econimy, so i'm not gonaa order them on the internet, even though it's cheaper

If the shops advise pinstripes of any kind, don't take any advice though yours may be okay as they advised big dog, a good brand really.

Just for the hell of it what i recommend to anyone:
Remo Coated CS Black Dot
Remo Amb Snareside
Remo Amb's or Emp's as tom batters (coated or clear as preference)
Remo clear Amb's as tom resos
Evans Emad 2 Coated Bass batter (Or Standard Emad with Evans AF Patch)
Remo Ebony Amb as Bass reso

would putting a bass drum patch on make any difference to the sound? Thanks for all the advice guys, but i fear it's becoming a daunting task now

there really is no replacement for trial and error ;)

yup, you pretty much have to test stuff for yourself ~ it takes time & it costs money.

The Remo patch increases attack and makes it sound like garbage IMO, but Evans makes patches that increase or decrease attack (depending on which one you buy) if I'm thinking right.
